Being a University of Kent student is truthfully not that exciting of a deal. However, being a University of Kent student in the Medway campus is to say the least, something different. While the Canterbury campus got the real touch of university life with bigger events, grounds, and everything in between. The Medway students got a couple of buildings to study in and one big ASDA store. So here are 10 relatable gifs that accurately describe being a student at University of Kent!
You know what I’m talking about, University of Kent students. The 191 bus that’s the only cheap method of transformation other than walking that is also ALWAYS delayed. You’re better off walking in the freezing cold to your destination than spending a couple of hours shivering at the bus stop.
One of the few good things about the Medway campus is the student Starbucks that provides you with cheap coffee to keep you awake in lectures. Who can resist grabbing an americano before class even if it means everyone will stare at you when you walk in late…again?
I can’t count the amount of times I’ve almost been run over by a car on the way to campus because of my eyes being half open and my brain only 2% functioning. This is what happens when you constantly have all nighters kids.
There’s nothing more beautiful than watching the sunrise from the windows of Drill Hall library at 4am after a long hard night of studying. Who knew that something so breathtaking would appear at the end of a hectic day? This includes the multiple trips to the bathroom, messing around at 3 am, and singing along to Hannah Montana on the walk back home before going to sleep and doing it all over again the next day.
One big advantage of living in Medway is how close and cheap London is to get to. It’s only 40 minutes away by train and costs about 11 pounds with a railcard so there’s no doubt that every other weekend would be spent taking a trip there. It’s always such a relief to take get out of Medway and find cute places in London to roam in and take pictures.
Imagine relaxing in bed after a long day at university, probably enjoying an episode of Friends on Netflix or just going through Twitter on your phone. You’re stress free and enjoying these few moments to yourself where you can just breathe. Then the annoying fire alarm of Liberty Quays goes off and ruins it so all you can hear is the ringing in your head only to eventually find out that some a-hole lit a cigarette in his room and put off the fire alarms.
It’s mid assignment week and you’re only a quarter of the way through with your essay and have spent the last few days staying up at the library. There’s no food in your fridge and no time to go grocery shopping so there’s only one thing to do: order pizza. There’s only so much joy in the one hour break you spend devouring a large pizza from Dominos and enough time to squeeze in a quick crying session before going back to your essay.
Probably the number one way people make friends in Medway is by finding a companion to complain with about your university. The building is too small, Tesco closes too early, Starbucks never has enough hot chocolate, and so on… These are the type of friends you can rant to and also survive with through the tough times during university so there is at least one positive outcome of living there.
What do you do when you have a two hour break between lectures? Do you take the 15-minute walk home, prepare lunch, then go back to your next lecture energised and ready to go? No, definitely not. You’ll most likely end up in Starbucks with your second cup of coffee for the day and scrolling through ASOS on your phone for clothes you don’t have the money to buy.
Last but not least, it is the end of assignment week and it is time to celebrate. Wether it is catching up on some sleep after days of all nighters, having a relaxing spa day at home, or going out with your friends, it beats the hell out of staying up at the library for one more day. It doesn’t matter wether your work was amazing or just barely passing, you finally did it! You reached the deadline and it is time to sit back and relax.
