First dates can always be difficult to plan due to nerves. But when it’s Winter, not many people will want to be outside and so it can be limiting trying to find something to do. No more beach trips, no more mini golf (unless it’s inside), you have to start thinking of something else. Here are 8 first date ideas for Winter, to try and help you ease the nerves.
Most cities will have an ice rink. Whether it’s an indoor one, or a temporary one at Winter Wonderland, ice skating can create the perfect festive atmosphere for you and whoever you’re with. Plus, if your Winter first date is going well, you can always ‘accidentally’ fall into their arms. If it’s not, well then maybe just fake an injury.
It’s always a good idea to go somewhere public for a first date. Coffee shops are always a good choice no matter the weather. They have a cosy atmosphere that’s perfect for Winter and delicious hot chocolate to warm you up. It’s a great place to get the conversation flowing.
For most first dates in the Winter, you will want to be indoors. That’s why some of the classics will still be a good option. Nothing beats a cinema trip. There will be horrors during Halloween, Christmas action films and obviously, the cheesy rom-coms to choose from. There’s something for everyone and you never have to worry about awkward conversations because you’ll be silently watching the film. Most cinemas are near restaurants so if it goes well just ask them out for dinner afterwards.
Most cities and towns will have plenty of Christmas events for you to choose from. A popular one is always a good Christmas fete or market. You can see reindeer, try some good food and perhaps even see Santa himself! They always create a fun atmosphere and is a perfect opportunity for a Winter first date. Just walk around and get to know each other slowly.
If you want something even more public, maybe try an ice bar. This is the perfect place to have a drink and still be in the festive mood. Obviously, take care of yourself around alcohol and maybe don’t get too drunk if you don’t know them too well. But otherwise, just relax a little and enjoy the moment. Keep your friends by their phones just in case you need a quick get-away if the date gets dull.
Arcades aren’t just for children. They’re for everyone and are especially good if the person you’re meeting is a gamer. Show them the old-school games and have a laugh over some air-hockey. They usually like to trim up or put on events around Christmas so you might be surprised by something when you get there. Fill up on coins and enjoy the over-priced food. Definitely a good place for a first date. Just don’t get too dressed up because you will ruin your shoes on their sticky floors.
Escape rooms are a fun new addition to date ideas. There’s usually some sort of theme like ‘circus’, ‘zombies’ or even ‘Sherlock Holmes’, so maybe have a look for Winter themed ones too. You won’t get bored as you’ll have no choice but to communicate to solve the puzzles, so that takes care of any awkward silences.
For those adventurous people who actually like going outside, maybe take a stroll in the Winter weather. If it’s snowing, that’s even better! The scenery will be beautiful and you’ll have plenty to do. Build a snowman, go sledging, have a snowball fight, there’s endless opportunities to choose from! One of the best things about first dates in Winter, is that, if the weather is right, it opens up more choices by just going outside.
