10 Feng Shui Rules You Should Definitely Follow

Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese metaphysical art that interprets architecture in terms of spiritual forces. The ultimate goal of this practice is to achieve perfect harmony between the individual and the surrounding world. Even outside of China there are many people who follow the rules of Feng Shui; it is also really popular in the West. Whether you believe this or not, it is worth trying out this practice to see if it can help you feel more in synch with your surroundings. Here are out top 10 Feng Shui rules you should definitely follow:

1. Keep your bedroom enclosed

It is important to keep all of the doors in your bedroom closed, especially at night. This applies to all closet doors, any en-suite bathroom doors, and the main door itself. By ensuring that your bedroom is enclosed, you will prevent energy from escaping the room. This will strengthen your health and your relationship with your partner.

2. Remove all electronics from your bedroom

This Feng Shui rule is probably one of the most relevant adaptations of the ancient Chinese teachings. Many of us are used to busy schedules, so we cannot imagine life without our phones and TVs. However, you should make an effort to keep your bedroom free from all of these items – they not only destroy the balance of energy but are also bad for your health.

3. De-clutter your home

Removing clutter from your house can be a tiring and time-consuming process, but it is a great way to get rid of all of the things that you don’t like. It will help to create a harmonious energy in your home and will also make it seem more spacious. You really don’t want to be keeping anything that could possibly bring bad energy – in other words, anything that can make you feel upset or distressed. This is definitely one of the most important feng shui rules to follow!

4. Express your Feng Shui birth element

There are five elements in Feng Shui – water, fire, metal, earth, and wood – and each of these corresponds to a particular set of dates. This way, you can determine your personal Feng Shui birth element and apply it to your home. For example, my birth element is fire, which means that I should be using fiery colours (such as red, orange, and yellow) and triangular shapes to express this element.

5. Ensure good quality air

Having pure, good quality air in your house is an important rule of Feng Shui. In order to improve the air quality, be sure to open your windows as often as possible to let in fresh air. You could also invest in an air-purifier, which will help keep the air in your home rich in oxygen. It is really important to avoid breathing in pollutants and unclean air as much as possible.

6. Use appropriate lighting

The quality and nature of the light that you use in your home is a crucial part of good Feng Shui. It is important to allow as much natural light as possible to enter your house. You could also use dimmer switches so that you are able to adjust the levels of light. Candles are one of the best light sources that you could use, as they clear the energy and create a very warm atmosphere. This is absolutely one of the most crucial feng shui rules!

7. Find out your lucky directions

According to Feng Shui, every person has a lucky direction that depends on their Kua number, which is determined by your birth year and gender. Knowing your lucky direction is extremely important – you have to orient your bed, desk, and seating in the correct way in order to have good energy. Facing an unlucky direction can have lots of negative effects that can prevent you from being content.

9. Keep the kitchen clean

This is a generally good idea but it is also a crucial part of Feng Shui. The kitchen has a special significance in this Chinese practice, so you have to be mindful of its state if you want to secure good energy. You must not let the dishes pile up or allow any spoilt food to remain in the kitchen – this is considered really bad for Feng Shui. Definitely one of the feng shui rules you need to follow!

10. Keep drawers and closets organised

Organisation and neatness is a key aspect of Feng Shui, which is why it is worth going through your storage areas to ensure that they are in order. Having cluttered drawers or closets will create bad energy, so be sure to keep everything neat and organised. This will restore balance to yourself and your home.
