Everything You Need To Know About The New Samsung Phones

Samsung announced their new phones last week, the Samsung s10e, S10 and S10+ are due to be released on March 8th. Their sleek designs have yet again shown the world that Samsung phones are the best-looking Android phones on the market, and there is a very real possibility the new range of Samsung phones are nicer than anything Apple currently has on the market.

New Features

The new S10 features a characteristic we’ve never seen on a phone before – it’s being referred to as the “hole punch” and is a little circle actually on the screen that contains the front facing camera. It’s an interesting tactic from Samsung in a bid to fit as much usable screen as possible onto the phone, but it will largely be hit or miss with users – much like Apple’s “notch” was on their most recent releases.

The Galaxy S10e is their “cheaper” option, much like iPhone’s XR, but it’ll still set you back £669 and the s10+ will cost you £999 if you want the 512GB option (which is just a ludicrous amount of storage, I mean really, who needs that much?)

The standard S10 will feature a 6.1″ display, which is bigger than S9 last year, and thanks to the “hole punch” the ratio of screen-to-body is around 91.3%, meaning nearly the entire front of the phone can be used for the beautiful AMOLED display, which features an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor, and 3 lenses for the camera on the back. These both come as standard with all phones except the S10e.

The Samsung Fold

It’s fair to say that Samsung have done something unprecedented, and may have actually changed the course of history with their new phone: The Samsung Galaxy Fold.

Using what Samsung are calling the “Infinity Flex Display”, the Fold offers the user a choice between using it as a phone, or as a tablet – the likes of which we have never seen from a mobile phone before. Windows and Lenovo have utilised similar hardware in the past, allowing users to fold their laptops backwards into a tablet, but we have never seen the ability to fold the actual screen in half.

The Infinity Flex Display is being used by other android companies too, particularly Huawei with their 5G Mate X that they announced after Samsung, and with its likely increasing ubiquity, it could render tablets obsolete. The Galaxy Fold is set to be released on May 3rd throughout Europe and will be priced at a whopping €2000. There is no official UK price yet but it is expected to be around £1500.

The software included within the Fold will be different to that of the S-Series, due to its need to be able to seamlessly transition between the cover display, and the tablet screen measuring in at 7.3″ when unfolded. There will be a new operating system in the Fold, known as “One UI” replacing “TouchWiz” which has been used in Samsung smartphones since 2010.

Samsung Phones Carry On Pioneering

Samsung have proven to the world, yet again, that they are ahead of the curve and are one of the juggernauts of not only the mobile phone industry, but the technology industry as a whole. They have revolutionised the mobile phone with the new Fold, and they are looking to add the Infinity Flex Display to other devices such as tablets and laptops.

While Apple have cornered the “non-Android” sector of the mobile phone industry, it is safe to say that with their new range of phones, Samsung are still leading the way in the Android phone market, and it isn’t even close.

So, does this have you excited about the next Samsung phones? Or are you Apple all the way? Let us know in the comments!
