You might have noticed the word “poke” fills up food blog posts and starts to overrun menu around your city. In some places, poke bowl specialized shops has started to overwhelm people, serving their favourite fish with a pinch of exotic and colour. Yeah, it’s exploded also in UK the new fresh trend in fact of food! After Japanese sushi and Peruvian ceviche, there is a new tasty dish that every foodie must try.

Well, the main ingredient is fish. It sounds already interesting, isn’t it? A poke bowl is basically a salad of raw marinated fish cubes, typically tuna (Ahi) but other fishes like salmon can also be used. Fish cubes are, then, placed on the top of a Japanese rice bed, mixed with a bunch of different veggies, like avocados, shallots, edamame beans and seaweed, and seasoned with Asian dressing like soy sauce, sesame oil, ponzu, vinegar or even spicy black-bean paste. Perfect to be enjoyed during a warm spring lunch break!

This super fresh fish salad is an Hawaiian traditional dish, born from fishermen who were seasoning the cut-offs from their catch to serve as a snack whilst sat on their boats. Bless them! If your city has not driven crazy for poke bowl yet, don’t worry! Making your homemade bowl is really easy. For the base used basmati rise and green salad. At this point, throw together your favourite ingredients: salmon, tuna, avocado, mango, edamame beans, seaweed…the possibilities are endless. Marinated the fish with soy sauce or other Asian style dressing, according to your taste. Simple and tasty, it could be a wonderful food idea to impress your guests or as a fast and healthy dinner to enjoy by yourself!

If you are already in love with poke bowl, here’s a good news: as well as being a tasty dish, it’s also a healthy recipe. Indeed, the caloric intake is very low, but, in the same time, it’s well balanced in terms of vitamins, carbs and proteins. Thanks to fresh vegetables your poke bowl is a great source of vitamins from D and C, iron, zinc, folate, magnesium and potassium, just to cite some. On top of that, you will have loads of omega oils from the fish. Plus, the rice will give you the right portion of carbohydrates that your body needs. You can also opt for an integral rice, if you want to lower them.
