8 Essential Social Media Apps For College Students Living On Campus

Technology nowadays and social media in general, are a crucial part of our lifestyle. As much as I say that social media apps can also be harming and dangerous for our mental health, if used wisely, they can help you massively with life on campus. I’ll give you a few ones that you can utilise and that would help you in your academic and daily life.

1. LinkedIn

First and foremost, download LinkedIn!!! I cannot stress this enough and before you think ”what the heck” let me tell you. LinkedIn has great potential for job offers for college students from all backgrounds studying all courses. When in my first year our tutor said we HAD to create an account, I was just sitting there thinking… why are we doing this, this is so useless, blabla. It actually took me ages until I properly developed my profile and when you put a tiny bit of effort into adding all of your skills and achievements, there’s a high chance an employer will notice you. I actually received a placement offer on LinkedIn!

2. Facebook

Duh, you may say. Interestingly, at my university, there were lots of people who didn’t have Facebook accounts. They quickly had to make one, just because so many of the group projects included actions on Facebook, for example, we had assignments where we had to create our own Facebook agency page and manage it. Managing social media apps is a part of many jobs in the communications sector and using Facebook’s page manager thing can be quite useful for you.

3. Instagram

Again, trying to look at this from a business perspective. Obviously, you do have an Instagram. Then what can you do with it? Drawing points from my experience, again, you may need it for some assignments you’re given at college/university and using Instagram Business can add some valuable skills to how to effectively manage an Instagram Business page. Plus, the social media app is very good for people like photographers or artists, who can use it as a portfolio and be noticed by more people.

4. Your own college app

Whether you’re in college or university, chances are your academic institution has a sort of an app. What you definitely need to do is download it and use it regularly, as it is a useful source of timetables, library resources, schedules, emails and all other sorts of things you require to keep your academic performance great.

5. Graduway

Graduway is a college social network service and it is created to improve alumni relations with the current students. It can be quite useful for building a professional network and for finding good internships or jobs.

6. Unidays

Although Unidays isn’t exactly one of the traditional social media apps, it is the perfect app for anyone who loves student deals. They’ve got anything from Apple deals to Food deals in various restaurants, to Makeup deals and all sorts of shops you can think of. Downloading it is easy and verifying you’re a student is even easier. Now go save yourself some money!

7. Ready Education

Ready Education is the child of the merging of OOHLALA and DubLabs. Basically, the app is a social task organiser which you can customise, according to your schedule. The timetable you build is comparable to your friends’ (so you can finally and once and for all decide who’s really the BUSIEST). In addition, you can text and connect with your college community via groups and chats.

8. Hallspot

Hallspot is somewhat similar to Unidays, however, it is mainly focused on saving money in bars and restaurants. It wouldn’t really hurt to have a few of those social media apps in case you feel like going out a couple of times during the week.

We hope our shortlist will be of good use to you. Let us know below your favourite social media apps!
