Whatever your plans are for this summer, you want your hair to be manageable in the hot weather and look effortlessly good for that relaxed summer vibe. Here are some easy ways to style your hair this summer that is not only comfortable for long, hot days but practical for all the fun you’re going to have this summer!
It takes five seconds to do and is perfect for the girl who has thick, difficult-to-manage hair but doesn’t want to scrape it all back. The half-up bun is ideal if you can’t be bothered curling or straightening all of your hair, as the rest can just go into a little topknot – messy or tight, your choice. It doesn’t require skills of a top stylist: the messy style is trendy with buns. It’s also handy for girls with bangs or shorter layers at the front, as your hair isn’t sticking to your forehead or cheeks during hot temperatures.
The side-plait is another effortless-looking way to style your hair, and the messier the better! A loose, relaxed plait is way more comfortable than tying your hair tight, and it also frames your face nicely if you have a rounder face with soft features. You can also dress this style up for the evening by adding hair slides, clips or using a ribbon to tie the plait.
Kendall Jenner was spotted rocking this look, but you don’t need Kardashian stylists to get the same look. Twin buns are just as easy to do as a normal bun, and again these probably look better done messily for that carefree summer festival vibe. In a more practical sense, twin buns keep your hair out of your face and, if you’re at a festival or outdoor event, you’ll avoid getting food, drink, paint or (as much) glitter in it!
This is a beautiful look for your hair if you’re going to a summer wedding or garden party, and would compliment a summer dress or pretty blouse. Either curl your hair and pull down on the curls with your fingers to create loose waves, or pleat your hair after washing it and leave to dry overnight. Either way, you want to create this look with boho-style waves. Then take two small sections of your hair at the front, and braid them to meet the back of your head. Fasten them together with kirbys, slides, clips – whatever you have. You can also accessorise this style with a floral headband for that ultimate boho vibe, or a jewelled headband if you want to dress it up a bit more.
Ponytail, braids, bun, or leave it loose – a scarf is the perfect compliment to literally any style for your hair, which makes it a staple for your summer look. Scarfs give you the option to be as effortless or as creative as possible. Liven up a classic bun for a beach trip if you don’t want to get your hair wet, or use in place of an Alice band for an al-fresco lunch date with the girls. Another popular way to style your hair with a scarf is by using it to tie your hair in a low ponytail for a classy evening party look. In terms of style, the paisley pattern is making a huge comeback this summer, so use as colourful a scarf as possible to add a popping finishing touch to your outfit.
This classic hairstyle is a must, not only because of how easy it is but how timeless and beautiful it looks for any summer setting. If you want the relaxed beach daytime look, simply run some texturing mousse through towel-dried hair, tie into loose braids and leave overnight. The next day, untie and lightly separate the waves with your fingers, and finish with a touch of hairspray. If you want to style your hair for a more polished look, use some salt spray (avoiding the roots) to give your hair texture, blow-dry and finally curl your hair in smaller sections for tighter curls, or bigger sections for looser waves. The looser, more relaxed look is best for that cool summer vibe, and takes much less time! Make sure you don’t use too much conditioner, as your hair will be trickier to curl.
