5 Donut Shops In Manchester That Are Too Good To Ignore
The city of Manchester has never had a shortage of delicious sweet treats to discover within its bakeries, restaurants and dessert dens – but there’s an exciting new trend involving one delicious morsel in particular that’s too good to ignore. The humble donut is back in vogue, with donut shops popping up everywhere. Manchester’s donut shops have so much to offer; we’re talking crazy fillings, ridiculous toppings and delish flavour combos. Forget that summer is on the way, agree that round is a sexy shape (donuts are the sexiest of baked goods after all) and hit up these 5 donut shops in Manchester that are too good to ignore!
1. New Yorker Diner
Tucked away underground and well known for its divine American-inspired eats such as buttermilk fried chicken on waffles, New Yorker Diner also has a penchant for creating donut based desserts that sound too good to be true. Heard of ice cream sandwiches? Thought so. Heard of ice cream donut sandwiches? Well now you have (thank us later). Dubbed ‘The Milky Bun’, this absolute gift from the donut heavens is as good as it sounds. Think of the fabulous combo of hot and cold, sweet and soft all at the same time. We’ll take 10, please.
2. Manchester Doughnut Company
The Manchester Doughnut Company was started by local chef Ed Beech seeking to fill a gap in the market for more eclectic donut flavours. Handmade in small batches, Ed creates flavour combinations such as white chocolate and pumpkin donuts, butterscotch and bourbon donuts and donuts topped with Crunchy Nut Cereals! The secret to these donuts is the slow proving process used to make the dough (although covering them in butterscotch once they’ve been fried can’t hurt either eh?) You can find these beauties at The King’s Arms, and at The Makers Market in Spinningfields and Didsbury every month.
3. Common
Self-described bar, eatery, coffee shop and bakery, Common is the ideal place to head for the full works. Their donuts are fantastic and come in all manner of belt popping varieties such as salted caramel, white chocolate and raspberry and coffee and walnut. You can check out the hip art adorning the walls while you digest and firmly tell yourself you’re not allowed a second donut. What happens in Common, stays in Common. You really need to visit these donut shops in Manchester.
4. Tea Hive Chorlton
A cheeky tram ride takes you away from the bright(ish) lights of Manchester’s city centre and puts you in the chilled out, hipster area of Chorlton filled with micro-breweries and quaint coffee shops bursting with handmade foods. Tea Hive Chorlton is one of such lovely cafes, and one of their specialties is mini ‘dipping’ donuts that come with different dips such as sweet lemon curd, chocolate crème or raspberry jam. These bite-sized morsels are perfect for when you want to treat yourself and not feel too guilty afterward.
5. SiOP SHOP
SiOP SHOP is one of Manchester’s coolest cafes that just so happens to double up as a donut shop, with some of the tastiest donuts on offer. Fillings such as chocolate and vanilla custards, homemade fruit jams and banoffee crème are all available, the list goes on and on. Don’t even get us started on the toppings and glazes! A serious favourite is their white chocolate custard donut with a blueberry glaze and for obvious reason. What’s even better is that they also make delicious vegan donuts too – donuts are for everyone!
