10 DIY Home Decor Looks You Need In Your Place
Are you one of those people who goes to Urban Outfitters or Anthropology want to buy everything in sight, but ends up leaving empty handed because the stuff there is so expensive? Well we have got you covered, with 10 easy DIY home décor looks that are set to make your home look very chic.
1. Pressed flower wall decor
The supplies needed for this first DIY are super minimal. All you need is:
- White canvas
- Some flowers or leaves
- Parchment paper
- Hot glue gun, or strong glue
You can gather some flowers and leaves from outside, you don’t have to buy them in a store if you don’t want to. Once you have your selection of natural interesting pieces you will need to press them. This is easily done by laying down a piece of parchment or wax paper and on top of that you lay down your florals. Once that is done, you will need to place another piece of parchment paper on top and layer some heavy items, like books, on top of it so that it gets pressed nicely. You should leave it to get pressed for a few days, 4-5 is recommended, and once they are all completely pressed they will retain the shape and colour which is extremely nice. Now you just need to layer them on your canvas, find out where you want to place them, glue them down with hot glue, or a strong glue, and you are done with your very chic but still inexpensive canvas.
2. Momento lamp shade
For this DIY you will need:
- Lampshade
- Wood clips
- Paint and brush
- Hot glue gun, or strong glue
So the first thing you will do is take the wood clips and paint them of a colour of your choice, for a very minimal look we went with black, this is completely optional however as you can keep the wood colour if you prefer. Then you will glue the clips to the top of the lampshade at about every three inches and depending on how bit your lampshade is you can do multiple levels. Now clip your momentos on and you are done.
3. Frosted glass geo vase
What you need for this next DIY is:
- Sea glass spray-paint
- Glue stick
- Vase
- Ruler
- Paper
- Scissors
You will start by cutting two inch strips from paper and then cut out some triangle masks, or any other shape you would prefer. Once you are done cutting, use a glue stick to glue one side of the shapes and let it dry out, because once it dries it turns into a slightly tacky but removable masking piece. Now place them on your vase in your chosen pattern and wherever the paper is the spray paint is not going to go on the glass. So then, you will need to spay paint your vase, I would suggest doing this outside or in a box so that you don’t dirty anything important. Spray a layer of the sea glass spray paint on the outside of the vase. Once you are done, just gently pull off the little masking pieces and it will show the clear glass through. I would also suggest putting a mask on the top of the vase so that the spray paint doesn’t get inside ruining the final effect, but it is removable with acetone.
4. Hammered metal candle holder
This candle is inspired by Labo Candles and all you need is:
- Tin can
- Wick
- Some old candles
- Hammer
Start off by taking your tin can and literally hammer it. We love the rustic distressed look of this, it looks very industrial and minimalist. After that you will need to put a skillet on the stove on very low heat and take a couple of candles, new or old doesn’t really matter, and you will keep them on the stove until the wax has melted down completely. Pull out the old wicks, take them off the stove and let them cool down a couple of minutes so that they are not burning hot and, in the meantime, glue the bottom of the new wick to the inside of your hammered tin. Finally, simply pour the wax in and wait for it to dry.
5. Gradient dyed pillowcases
All you will need is:
- Jersey pillowcases
- Dye of a colour of your choice
- Paintbrush
- 5 Foam cups
- Trash bag
Lay the trash bag on a table to protect it from any paint splashes, then in each of the 5 foam cups add a half cup of warm water. Once you are done add one teaspoon of dye to the first cup, two to the second, three to the third, etc. so that there is a more concentrated dye as you go down. So then with a tick paintbrush you will go ahead and paint strips of dye onto your pillowcase to have a gradient look, so from darker to lighter or vice versa. And I would suggest following the instructions on the dye to see if you have to do anything else, but you are done.
6. Leather coasters
All you are going to need for this DIY is:
- Foam core
- Pleather fabric
- Scissors
- Exacto knife
- Ruler
- Super glue
Start of by taking your foam board and cut it into 4×4 inch squares. Then take your pleather fabric and cut it out 6×6 so that you have excess to fold over your foam board. Once you are done cutting you will want to glue your foam board squares to the middle of the back of your pleather squares. Then cut of the excess corners of your fabric and then glue the rest of the excess to the other side of the foam board. Place some heavy stuff on top and just let it dry for a few hours.
7. Vinyl record frame
The supplies you will need are:
- Foam core
- Album
- Super glue
- Black cord
- Exacto knife
- Ruler
Start by measuring out two 14×14 inch squares on your foam board and then, on one of them, you are going to cut a window out by measuring 1 and a quarter inches on all edges and then cutting out the square that it creates in the centre. That will create the window which you are going to see the album through. Then cut out three half inch strips of foam board in the length of your album’s edge. Layer the album on to the centre of the 14×14 square and glue the three strips around it, leaving the top open so that your vinyl can easily slide in and out of your frame. Then glue the window foam on to those strips, to make the front of your frame. Lastly, take your black cord and glue the ends to either side of the frame, so that you can hang it on the wall.
8. Plastic bag cement tray
The items you will need are:
- Quick dry concrete powder
- Ziplock bag
- Scissors
Start the project by taking your quick dry concrete powder and mix it with some water in a container to create the concrete, you should mix it until you create a very thick paste consistency which is still runny and pliable. Now take your Ziplock bag, choose one with the same dimensions you would want your tray to be, and pour the mixture inside of it, the less concrete you will pour the thinner your tray will be and the more you pour the thicker it will be. Close the Ziplock and lay it out on a flat surface until you get the shape that you want. Next with your pair of scissors poke a couple of little holes in the bag just to take the air out as much as possible. Then take a heavy-ish circular item, like a glass, and place it in the middle so that as it dries it kind of cures around it and creates sort of that tray divot. Lastly, once it’s completely dry you can cut the bag open and take it out and you will have a brand new concrete tray.
9. Abstract yarn art
For this project you will need:
- White canvas
- Some yarn
- Spray adhesive
- White spray paint
- Scissors
Start by taking your yarn and creating a very abstract piece of art onto the canvas, just by letting it fall wherever it wants to fall. Once you are happy with the design, go ahead and spray it with the adhesive, but make sure that the canvas is laid on some sort of bin bag or newspaper, because you don’t want your surface to go all sticky. Once its dry, spray it with your white paint and once it’s completely dry it will be nice and set and will look amazing.
10. Stone vase
For this final DIY you will need:
- A vase
- Stone spray paint
Start off by stray painting your vase with the stone spray paint, you will need to do many layers of it to fully cover it, so I would suggest doing this outside. Once you are finished spray painting your DIY is complete.
