Everybody knows that student houses lack a lot of things. One of the major things they don’t have is storage. Student’s are young, we’re free and we’re lazy. So for the most of us, our rooms are messy and the sitting room resembles a car crash with maybe a spritz of air freshener to hide that musty damp smell. But there is a new year coming, academically anyway, but that is as good a reason as any to try and introduce some DIY closet organization into your student house.
Student wardrobes never have much space in them, so using a soft drink can top, you can hang two items from one space and essentially double your wardrobe space. Of course, this hack helps if there are certain pieces you always wear together, or can give you the space you need to create outfits within your wardrobe.
If you have a lot of shoes, cut open the small face of the box and slip a pair inside, and keep a pair on top. By decorating the boxes, they can look chic and still be super practical.
You don’t need your puffy North Face Coat right now, its 26 degrees! Suitcases just generally take up space and get hidden under beds or on top of wardrobes for months at a time. Then when you do use them, you’re not there! So, use your big suitcase to keep the out of season clothes out of the way. Another great closet organization idea!
Hanging organisers are very multi purposeful, and can be used for anything from clothes, and shoes to books and snacks. Hang it in your closet, and store whatever you need.
CD racks are a great shape and if your parents don’t happen to have one. You can generally pick one up very cheap from a charity shop. You can decorate them to your own style and then use them to hold trinkets, make up or anything that is currently sitting in a bag or box.
Accessories usually end up all over the place, but by using a coat hanger you can create a place for them to live and to stay un-tangled. You can hang this hanger with your clothes or, if your landlord lets you, put a nail in the wall and hang your belongings wherever you need them.
Rather than stacking t shirts on top of themselves. Try stacking them sideways so you can see the design and pull the top you want out easily without ruining the pile. This way of folding clothes keeps your t shirts neat and tidy and easy to find. We think this is a great closet organization idea!
If you’ve got a little bit of space in your wardrobe, pop down to Wilko’s and buy some shower hooks. With these you can hang your bags up safely and securely and give them a bit more space, rather than having them stuffed on a shelf or piled in a corner.
There are so many easy ways to organise your closet and create more space in your student room. These hacks are super straightforward and easy to do. If there are anymore DIYs or hacks you want us to look into then let us know in the comments below!
