Tired of Netflix and looking for a fun and exciting date to try in London? Despite what John Green says, there’s a limit to the number of times you can lie on the grass and whisper truths about infinity to each other before it gets boring. Whether it’s because you want to impress your partner or go on a fun mate-date, it’s always nice to treat yourself to something special every now and then.
Here are 5 different and memorable London dates to try that doesn’t require you to sell your organs to pay for it.
This is the perfect date if you want to fool people into thinking you’re one of those cultivated couples who spend all your time at Tate Modern. Sushi school sounds very fancy, but the truth is the classes are very relaxed and fun. Yo-sushi offers classes for £25 per person that lasts about 2 hours. You learn how to make an array of different maki and hand rolls and you get to take your tiny eatable pieces of art home.
They also offer special Christmas and holiday classes with Prosecco and wine if you want to make your date extra special. You can even channel your inner Gordon Ramsay and critique each other’s results when you’re done. These classes fill up fairly quickly so you might have to book at least a few weeks in advance.
With the exception of swimming, there are so many things to do on the Thames. There’s boat cruises, parties, speed boats and afternoon tea on the river. If you and your partner have built up a significant amount of trust you can even take them kayaking. Nothing says romantic date quite like the murky London waters. There are a lot of offers available and you can easily find a boat trip for less than £15 per person, it all depends on what you’re looking for.
The Thames is also the perfect location for cheese couples photos. You will be on the water, there might be a sunset and all though Leonardo DiCaprio won’t be there to paint you like a French girl, you could always throw your locket in the water for good measure. Mind you, floating on a door on the Thames is not advisable for date nights.
Yes, this is a cinema, but it’s a next level kind of cinema. You can also order drinks, food, and snacks to your seat and use the pillows and blankets provided to roll yourself into a blanket burrito.
With venues both in Portobello and Shoreditch, the cinemas screen everything from fringe and independent movies to the newest box office hit. The tickets are a bit steep for a cinema trip as they charge about £12 per ticket, but it’s absolutely worth it if you want to feel like a rich old lady for an evening. If you’re lucky you might end up having the room all to yourself.
