7 Day Trips From Manchester You’ve Never Thought Of

Manchester is an amazing city, but sometimes you need to get out and go somewhere new for a trap trip. Here I’ve compiled some of the best day trips from Manchester!

Forest of Bowland

The Forest of Bowland is an enormous national park in the county of Lancashire. The forest is spread on many hills and at the top of some there are incredible view where you can see Blackpool Tower and Morecombe bay. This day out offers amazing walks throughout the forest where there are art pieces and small memorials to the history of the land. From Manchester, Beacon Fell is just over an hour in a car and would make a fabulous day out.

Alton Towers

If you love theme parks Alton Towers is surely one you should visit. They’ve just added the new ride ‘Wicker Man’, a wooden ride which is reminiscent of old fashioned American Rollercoasters and is probably now the best ride there. Alton Towers does come with a price tag of £55 a ticket but there are always offers on the sides of Kellogg’s cereal boxes. A trip to Alton Towers would take an hour and a half, the park opens at 10am and closes at 6pm so it is a worthwhile day trip where you’d have plenty of time to do everything.

York

York is a beautifully historical walled University City in the heart of Yorkshire.  It has a very rich cultural and political history reaching back to the Roman times, towers of the city are very popular and take in all of the areas of the city. York is also famous for one 14th century street called The Shambles, this street appeared in Harry Potter as Diagon Alley and is lined with small boutiques and other independent shops. Driving from Manchester to York would take a little longer at 1 hour 45 minutes. But there are also amazing train connections between these two cities.

Edale

Edale is a small village in the Peak district and is famously known as the start of the Pennine Way trail. It is an area of incredible beauty, and the village has two pubs both serving traditional beers and pub grub.  Aside from the Pennine way, the village is surrounded by other hills including Kinder Scout, Rushup Edge, and Win Hill. If you’re up for a day of walking and some tasty traditional pub food then Edale is your perfect day out, at only an hour away from Manchester.

Southport

Southport is a seaside town in the county of Merseyside, it is curbed in the North by the River Ribble’s estuary and sits right on the Irish Sea. The town grew largely in the Victorian era and is now full of incredibly beautiful Victorian seaside homes. Southport is famous for one street in particular Lord Street which is a tree lined Victorian street with shops and houses.  Southport’s sand dunes are recognised as a national nature reserve and are interesting to walk through. This wonderful seaside town is only an hour and a quarters drive from the city centre and does also have great rail links to Manchester.

Lancaster

Lancaster is an ancient settlement turned royal town. The town hosts two universities and many amazing architectural and historical features. Maybe enjoy a walk through the town centre, taking in the Castle and Priory Church. Or walk up to Williamson Park and explore the Ashton memorial, butterfly house and giant sundial. Lancaster is a town that is full of surprises and would a wonderful day out in the sun. It would take just over an hour to drive to Lancaster and could be an amazing afternoon out.

The Deep, Hull

The deep is one of the UKs best aquariums, situated quite near to the centre of Hull. It boasts of presentations, talks and dive shows. The Deep also does informative shows on feeding, showing the feeding of sharks and penguins throughout the week. As well as this, the aquarium also reminds customers that it is there for conservation and not profit. This exciting and different day out will cost students £12.50 and adults £13.50 when tickets are bought on the day and is a 2 hour drive from Manchester.
