Date spots can be hard to find and if you want to impress then they have got to be good ones. If you are local to Oxford or fancy taking a day trip with your partner then here are some good spots to hit. Whether it’s culture or fun and games you look for on a date, there’s plenty here to enjoy.
This place is right in the Westage shopping centre and it is so much fun. With loads of pre-loved quirks throughout the course, you and your date can sip on their crazy cocktails whilst playing 9-holes of crazy golf. What is not to love? With 3 courses to choose from you could return again and again – plus it is only £9.50 for one person. You could later head to the roof of the Westgate for a meal or even a spot of shopping if you simply don’t want your date to end.
Located just down George Street, any beer buff is sure to love this place. The menu revolves around – you guessed it – meat, bread and beer. With an ever-changing list of craft beers from around the country, you can try beers and have a couple of bar snacks or even a sit-down meal. The ambience here is nice and chilled so you can enjoy a great meal and a pint with your date. I recommend their kebabs as they are filling and delicious, and perhaps you can end your date by walking off the meal with Oxford’s walking tours or just a stroll around the beautiful university parks.
The museum may seem like a boring spot for a date but not this one. Visually this museum is gorgeous and has so much culture and history within. If you know your date has a particular interest in art or history then look out for upcoming exhibitions and events about it. Some of their current exhibitions include: The Painted World of Ancient Egypt, Poetry in the Galleries and The Severed Head of Medusa. The Ashmolean often do evening events as well, which topped off with a visit to the rooftop restaurant, would be an ideal date.
This board game cafe is tucked away in Gloucester Green and is a great place to go for a date. You can book a table for 3 hours and play board games to your heart’s content, there’s over 2700 to choose from! They also a varied food and drink menu for you and your date to choose from so you get both a light meal and entertainment in one cute place. There are hours of fun here for any couple.
Now, this is not something I have had the chance to do myself but it looks like great fun! It costs just £22 to hire a punt for an hour and you can take turns doing all the work. Cruising down Oxford’s stunning River Cherwell would be so idyllic, particularly when passing the botanic gardens and other sights of Oxford. It reminds me of that scene in Bridget Jones with Hugh Grant and Renee Zellweger in their prime. You can also hire rowing boats and pedaloes if punting is not for you but all sound like great fun, you could then dine at a riverside pub or take a picnic of your own.
