Cold shower challenge is a game changer! Around a year ago, I came across this Instagram account that completely amazed me with what the human body is capable of! It was Wim Hof’s account and let me tell you this man opened my eyes and helped me deepen an interaction between my body and mind. I started digging in and uncovered photos of Wim putting his body to the limits – this Dutchman climbed Mount Everest only wearing shorts and shoes! If this doesn’t convince you how amazing and powerful your body and mind are then carry on reading! I Did 20 Day Cold Shower Challenge and this is what I’ve learned!
Well, the 20-day cold shower challenge is a practice, a form of training you do for your body and mind! I was very amazed by what Wim Hof is capable of and couldn’t resist temptation but try it myself. It takes practice and time, however, slowly but surely you work on your endurance while learning to control your mind too. You expose yourself to cold temperatures by ending your shower with a few seconds to a minute of cold water. I must admit I found it very tough at the beginning of my 20-Day Cold Shower Challenge since I love it when warm water gently touches my skin and relaxes my muscles. What I have learned thank to Wim Hof’s method is that you don’t necessarily need to stand under your shower for 5 minutes straight but instead focus the attention on the experience of cold shower challenge and practice endurance.
Damn girl! I felt so empowered! In fact, I continue to practice cold showers because the positive changes I’ve noticed and what I’ve learned on this journey is unbelievable! If you’re like me and you’ve always kept telling yourself that if you take a cold shower and go outside right after, you’ll get cold or flu! What a lie! Cold showers improve circulation and this happens when you alternate between hot and cold water while showering – this makes your blood move faster in order to keep your organs warm! Interestingly, it strengthens your immune system as it consequently activates (during the cold shower) releasing a greater number of white cells! How fascinating is that?!
Alternating between hot and cold water does wonders to your body! It is very important to start your shower with warm water to open the pores of your skin and cuticles of your hair, and then apply your favorite products – and the most important part is to wash it off with cold water to do the opposite, close the pores and cuticles! This cold shower challenge has improved my skin condition and my hair seems so much stronger and smoother now too.
Each body is different and there are no two humans alike, you are the only one knowing your boundaries and you are the only one telling yourself what you can and cannot do. And let me tell you something real quick – there is nothing you cannot achieve and there is nothing you cannot improve, and your body is ace and your mind is so powerful! This part fascinates me the most – how huge impact cold shower challenge had on me and it proved how incredibly strong and dominant your mind is. When I started the cold shower challenge, I couldn’t stand a second under cold running water, now I practice at least one minute long cold showers every day! You can achieve anything if you believe in it!
Cold showers give you power, literally! You feel energized and ready to rock your day, work on your project and fully enjoy your day. From my own experience, I must say cold shower challenge shed new light on my own ability to control my body and mind. It will help you get up when you’re down, and if you’re tired just hop under the cold shower and watch the magic happen – it is truly better than caffeine.
