15 Cities To Visit On A Budget That Are Fun AF

Students are skint. It’s a fact. Student’s also like to travel, so here are a few ideas of amazing cities to visit on a budget if you get the chance!

Belfast, Northern Ireland 

Belfast is the capital of Northern Ireland and has an incredible history that can easily be explored in a day. You can wander around the Titanic experience and through the city centre, taking in all of the history of the Troubles and Northern Irish culture. The city is very cheap and has some amazing restaurants and a few very good, cheap vintage shops.

Berlin, Germany

Berlin is a very artist city, with an incredible history behind it. The city is full of hostels, cheap cafes, and restaurants so spending money doesn’t have to be an issue. Berlin is also famous for its incredible nightlife with clubs like Berghain (notoriously difficult to get into it) and other bar and clubs throughout the city. However, Berlin should also be remembered for its recent history. The fall of the Berlin wall occurred in 1989, and some pieces of it can still be visited now, it had become a memorial for the split in the city and teaches everyone about the cold war.

Brighton, England

Brighton is a vibrant seaside town on the south coast of England. It’s an hour on the train from London and has so much to offer. From quaint winding streets with independent shops to amazing little independent cafes and restaurants. Although Brighton is a little bit on the pricey side, you can very easily enjoy chips on the beach for a quid or two. The pier has amusements and fun cheap games to keep you occupied if you are having this trip on the lowest budget ever.

Dublin, Ireland

Although Dublin is a beautiful city with incredible night life and history. It is a touch expensive. Despite this, Dublin can be affordable. It has incredible pubs in Temple Bar and a wonderful history which can explore simply by watching along the river Liffy. It is definitely one of the cities to visit on a budget!

Edinburgh, Scotland

Edinburgh is a beautiful city which is cheap and easy to visit. A lot of tourism in Edinburgh comes from walking around and visiting the historic monuments such as Arthur’s Seat: a walk up a hill to a beautiful park with an incredible view of the city. Edinburgh Castle: the historic castle of Edinburgh which is another walk up a hill. Between these two monuments is a very famous, beautiful street called the Royal Mile. Edinburgh is also famous for treats such as deep fried Mars Bars and really cheap beer.

Leeds, England

Leeds is one of the fantastic cities to visit on a budget in the north of England. It is historic and cultural, but more famous now for its nightlife. From warehouse style raves to having some of the worst clubs in the country. There will never be a dull night out in Leeds. Historically Leeds was a huge city in the Industrial Revolution, and now is a University city with incredible shopping. Leeds has a few small shopping arcades, which you can walk through them for free and admire the stunning Victorian architecture and stain glass.

London, England

Staying in England is also great option for students. Although the trains can get a little pricey, getting a 16-25 railcard cuts the price down a third. Otherwise, Megabus and National Express do cheap cross country bus journeys. There is so much to do in London from the tourist destinations including the London Eye and Tower of London, to exploring the depths of Soho’s bars and clubs.  London also has amazing parks and museums for whatever weather you are blessed with.

Manchester, England

Manchester is one of the cities to visit on a budget with so much to offer. It is the second biggest city in England and has so many different areas. From the cheaper bars and cafes of Fallowfield to the expensive cocktail bars in Deansgate a Spinningfields. Manchester has an amazing history from the cotton mills to the music of the city. There is always something happening and somewhere you can go.

Naples, Italy

Naples is an incredible city, it’s gritty, it’s real and has a lot to do for not much money. Although Italy is an expensive country, Naples is a real working city and is very cheap and easy to get around. Naples is also a short train ride away from Mount Vesuvius which you can climb up and explore for 20 Euro. The food in this city is incredible and there are so many walks you can do and see the incredible bay of Naples.

Paris, France

Paris is a very touristy city with a lot to do. The city does also have cheaper areas, such as Monmartre where you can stay, visit the Scare Coeur church and eat at amazing street cafes and restaurants. Otherwise, you can use the Metro to get into the city centre.  Paris is split in half by the river seine and a lot of the city can be visited on foot as you walk along the banks. The city has a small island in the centre with Notre Dame and a few cafes which is worth visiting, however the city also has mazing galleries and shops to be explored.
