Study soundtracks are an art form and knuckling down to study is something we find hard to do. Having a great study soundtrack will surely make the whole arduous experience worth it and with these chilled out artists, your study soundtrack is bound to get you in the mood and get you through.
Ben Howard’s music is quite varied with a number of upbeat tunes such as ‘Only Love’ and ‘Keep Your Head Up’ but you have to search for the gems with Ben. His vibes are somewhat folky and his husky voice is really soothing to listen to. His indie style is sure to drown out the busyness of your brain and your surroundings. If you are at a loss with where to start try ‘Black Flies’, ‘Gracious’ and ‘A Boat To An Island On The Wall’. Most of his first album ‘Every Kingdom’ is great to study to or have a post-study chill session with.
Billie Marten’s songs are mostly mellow with gorgeous, calming lyrics. Her music is largely acoustic so if you enjoy those kinds of sounds then she is definitely destined for your study soundtrack. Billie Rose was discovered when her singing video on YouTube attracted thousands of views when she was only 12 years old. My personal favourites at the moment are ‘Mice’ and ‘La Lune’. If you have her album on shuffle, in the background of your study space you’ll be sure to get some work done.
Hozier came into my life around 2014 when his hit single ‘Take Me To Church’ became very popular and he played a gig in my city, which I attended. Ever since I’ve loved his music and eagerly awaited the release of his new EP ‘Nina Cried Power’, but some of these sounds are a slightly more upbeat and therefore might not be so good for a study soundtrack. His first album is where the studying music is at. Similarly to Ben Howard, Hozier’s music is a bit folky but with some rhythm and blues also. Songs that always make their way into my study soundtrack are ‘In A Week’, ‘Like Real People Do’ and ‘Cherry Wine’ but have a look for yourself and see which of his songs suit you.
At the moment Fenne Lily’s portfolio is limited but the music she has released is such good quality and has such beautiful acoustic sounds. Her album ‘On Hold’ needs to be on your study soundtrack if it isn’t already. My favourite song of hers is ‘Bud’, I recommend you all listen to it. It is the kind of music you don’t need to focus on lyrics to feel, which is what makes her a great chilled artist to add to your study soundtrack.
Tom Odell started his career with his hugely successful album ‘Long Way Down’ and I have loved him ever since. He recently released a new album ‘Jubilee Road’ which undoubtedly means more songs to bulk out your chilled study soundtrack. His songs feature delicate piano and his haunting voice, I find piano music so nice to study to. I recommend you listen to the Acoustic version of ‘Magnetised’,’Constellations’ and ‘Real Love’ first and then explore the rest of what he has to offer.
I would also like to feature George Ogilvie who I’ve just recently stumbled across, ‘Birdsong’ is my favourite of his so if you need one more song to add to your study soundtrack, let it be that one.
