10 Chill Songs That You Need To Listen To Before Bed

Listening to some chill songs before bed can be the perfect remedy to when you’re having a tough time falling asleep. Sometimes all you need is some music to help you calm down, drift off and gather your thoughts. Here are ten chill songs that are perfect to listen to at night when you’re comfortable and getting ready to snuggle in bed.

1. “Asos Model Crush” by dné

“Asos Model Crush” is part of dné’s instrumental album, “These Semi-Feelings, They Are Everywhere”. The alternative mix is a combination of electronic, acoustics and natural sound, and it surprisingly works well together. “Asos Model Crush” is my favourite from the album. The addition of rain in the background makes it an immersive listen that’ll take you on a journey and help you relax before bed.

2. “K.” by Cigarettes After Sex

Cigarettes After Sex is known for their deep smooth vocals and slow and chill tracks. Their song “Affection” is a fan favourite but my personal preference has to go towards “K.” for its nostalgic quality and tranquil vibes.

3. “Take Me Somewhere Nice” by Mogwai

“Take Me Somewhere Nice” is the perfect song to listen to when you’re alone. Despite the somewhat sombre and melancholic tone, I find listening to it soothing and oddly comforting. Keep on listening and you’ll find that it’s definitely more uplifting towards the end.

4. “Re: Stacks” by Bon Iver

I love listening to Bon Iver for their chilling vocals and acoustics. For me, “Re: Stacks” is perfect to listen to when gathering your thoughts. It’s just one of those songs that make you think about life a little – if you’re into that of course.

5. “To Be Alone With You” by Sufjan Stevens

Sufjan’s soft vocals complete this beautiful acoustic song. No matter your interpretation, “To Be Alone With You” is a track that can elicit a range of emotions from contentment and serenity to a sense of profoundness and loneliness.

6. “Cheers Darlin'” by Damien Rice

Highly emotive and soulful are the words that I’d use to describe this. If wine was music, “Cheers Darlin'” would be it. The track stretches to nearly six minutes and it’s a blessing to the ears. Unfortunately, it doesn’t last nearly long enough, and like me, you may be left wanting more. If you have the time then check out his other songs too, I strongly recommend “Elephant”.

7. “O” by Coldplay

Coldplay has been one of my favourite bands since I was a little girl, back when I was still discovering what music could be. I could make an entire list about my favourite ballads to come from them but recently I’ve rediscovered “O” and I’ve been hooked. Chris Martin’s voice is really working magic here and “O” has a heartfelt and captivating quality that makes you FEEL all the feels.

8. “Demons” by Joji

This is the song you listen to when its 2am and you’re restless AF. A lot of Joji’s music videos have had a water motif. There’s probably a deeper meaning but I can interpret it as me drowning in emotions when I listen to his songs. Joji’s other songs are just as good and “Slow Dancing In The Dark” and “Test Drive” are must-listens.

9. “The Wisp Sings” by Winter Aid

“The Wisp Sings” is absolutely beautiful and my go-to song when I’m feeling calm or want to collect my thoughts. It has the ability to merge all so many feelings, from pain, grief, and the fond memories that you look back on. It’s honestly a rollercoaster of emotions but you end up feeling rather blissful by the final note. It’s comforting, incredibly genuine and the opening chords never fail to get me.

10. “I Was More Than” by Lontalius

Last year, I had this song on repeat for months. Listening to it now, I’m still not sick of it. “I Was More Than” is a song that really appreciates an individuals self-worth despite all the obstacles that life throws at them. It’s a great listen and positive reminder that leaves you feeling like you’re on top of the world.
