Beyoncé and Jay-Z, the King and Queen and the ultimate power couple. Although the beginnings of their relationship are slightly ambiguous, with Jay-Z stating in a 2007 interview that the pair met 10 years previous, whilst Beyoncé claims they met when she was 18 (so 1999/2000). They have been through ups and downs in the past few years but still managed to keep their relationship going for more than a decade, as they got married and went on to have three beautiful children. Here are some of the top ten take-aways from Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s relationship.
We all knew they were crazy in love on the release of their 2003 collaboration of the same name, showing the world they were officially exclusive which not only made them crazy in love but also the world.
A very low key and intimate event which took place on April 4th 2008, the 4th being a special number for the couple, as Jay-Z was born on December 4th, and Beyoncé was born on September 4th. The wedding was never documented in the media, and the actual marriage was not discussed by the couple until four months later, although we can imagine it was a spectacular event. We need to see more!
The couples first child together, born on January 7th 2012, a blessing to Beyoncé and Jay-Z, especially after the couple discussed experiencing a miscarriage in their music. Beyoncé and Jay-Z try their best to keep her away from the limelight, although it is clear that she is a born star, at only six years of age she’s already featured on Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s songs, how many six year olds can say that?
Unless you have been living under a rock we all know about the footage released of Solange’s attack on Jay-Z in the elevator at the Met Gala on May 7th 2014, with Beyoncé witnessing the attack and eventually stepping in between them. According to various sources Solange’s attack was her standing up for Beyoncé as the protective sister she is. They broke the silence on the matter stating that they had problems like any other family, and were working through their issues. The incident was referenced in Beyoncé’s song Flawless, and three years later Jay-Z discussed his relationship with Solange stating “that’s my sister, not my sister-in-law”. Family always sticks together.
Their joint tour which kicked off in Miami on June 25th 2014, keeping with their Bonnie and Clyde-esque theme, which somehow made them in to bigger stars, if that’s possible. The power couple taking over the world again. We love it when Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s relationship brings them out performing together.
Beyoncé’s 2016 Visual album which caused a lot of controversy. As Beyoncé discussed cheating claims and “Becky with the good hair”, although the happy ending with Jay-Z and Blue Ivy gives a sense of hope. Inevitably it still brought about news stories regarding and Beyoncé Jay-Z’s marriage being on the rocks, but as always Bey and Jay kept quiet. The only reference being in Jay-Z’s verse on the song All The Way Up, rapping “You know you made it when the fact your marriage made it is worth millions… Lemonade is… a popular drink and it still is.”. Always turning controversy in to a positive.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z announced they were having twins in February 2017, and Beyoncé give birth to Rumi and Sir on June 13th 2017. Showing the Carter family is as strong as ever. Perhaps one of the most happy and special times of Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s relationship was the birth of Blue Ivy and their twins.
The Carter’s attended the Wearable Art Gala in March this year where Blue Ivy in true diva-fashion made a $17,000 bid on a Sydney Poitier painting. Although she was eventually outbid, everyone was buzzing over her diva move, possibly taking over her mother in that department. We couldn’t love her more.
The sequel to the 2014 On the Run Tour. This year Beyoncé and Jay-Z are back on the road, this time with more dates in Europe, and they even extended it to Australia. Not sure how they can top their first tour but they can definitely try, maybe they could bring Blue Ivy on for a song or two?
Of course this year’s Coachella was re-named just for Beyoncé, as she put on the most spectacular performance including a marching band, a Destiny’s Child reunion, falling over on stage with her sister Solange, and of course a duet with her husband Jay-Z. It was definitely a performance to remember.
