10 Best Things About Going To Uni In Liverpool
Going to university in Liverpool has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made! It has everything a prospective student could possible want or need in a university and as a city as a whole, and I’m here to tell you exactly why!
1. Community
As a young, ambitious student about to start their degree, there’s perhaps nothing more daunting than also having to move to a new city, make new friends and get used to your new surroundings. However, Liverpool is one of the most tight-knit, community-orientated cities I’ve ever been to and scousers are notoriously friendly and outgoing; perfect for helping any new student feel at ease!
2. Nightlife
As a young student who has experienced the nightlife of many cities across the UK, I can vouch for Liverpool having one of, if not the best nightlife in England. With all the best bars and clubs within walking distance from one central location, Concert Square, convenience is a given and one of the things that most other cities lack. Going to uni in Liverpool is a students paradise and if you’re anything like me and you don’t fancy waiting around for a taxi or trecking around an unfamiliar city in search of the next club, then you’re in luck!
3. Shopping
Liverpool One is one of the most well-known and sought after shopping centres in the UK which sees thousands of people travelling cross-country to visit and no wonder why with the conveniently located stores that line the clean and modern streets of Liverpool. You’ll find a little bit of everything in Liverpool One: Clothing, Gaming, Beauty, Stationary and Technology; everything that any student could possibly want or need right on your door step.
4. Restaurants
Liverpools restaurant scene is perfect for any new or current students and is one of the main reasons why going to uni in Liverpool is one of the best decisions you’ll ever make. Bold street is notorious amongst those who love continental flavours, being the host to cuisines such as Mexican, Lebanese, Japanese and American, to name a few. If this bustling street of exquisite dining hot spots wasn’t already enough, Liverpool One has an attached terrace which is home to some of the most well known restaurants in the country that are increasingly popular with students: TGI Fridays, Pizza Express and Wagamammas, amongst others.
5. The City
The city itself is seemingly built to be an idyllic spot for students, catering to an easy and care-free life. Due to Liverpool being smaller than perhaps some larger surrounding cities, everywhere you could ever possibly need to go is within reasonable walking distance. The library, your favourite lunch spot, the best gym and all your uni buildings, you name it; all walkable! This is perfect for any student on a budget and is also a great excuse for a bit of exercise!
6. Public transport
If you ever feel like venturing out of the big city into some of the more rural areas, such as Smithdown (practically a 2nd and 3rd year student infestation) or Sefton park on a bright spring day, then the public transport links to get you there couldn’t be easier. The city is filled with bus stops and taxi ranks, should you need them, which is ideal for any student wanting to explore on a budget and makes going to uni in Liverpool even more tempting! Additionally, Liverpool Lime street is one of the busiest and well-connected train stations in England. Situated on the outskirts of the main shopping district, Lime street is perfect for getting you home and back if you’re a student and is super well connected to other major cities such as London and Manchester.
7. The Uni’s
There are a whopping three universities in Liverpool which might make it more understandable as to why it’s practically a hub to students and why so many young and ambitious teens are enticed by the prospect of moving there. The universities are host to some of the most creative yet intelligent young minds in the country and offer some of the most high-tech equiptment which ultimately unlocks even more creativity and intellect than what some students deem possible which makes going to uni in Liverpool not only inspiring but also allows students to materialise their academic dreams.
8.The Docks
The docks are a perfect day out for any student; whether you just want to enjoy the nice views, visit the Maritime Museum, grab a few 241 cocktails at revolution or go to a concert at the echo arena; there really is something for everyone and the unconventional seaside is one of the reasons why going to uni in Liverpool will give you a truly unique experience.
9. The Baltic Social
As a student you’ll always be looking for the next fun activity you and your uni friends or flat mates can partake in, and Liverpool is not short of ideas. Specifically the baltic triangle which has a whole host of fun activities and days (or nights!) out for you and your new friends to bond over. Ghetto Golf, The Peaky Blinders bar, Jewellery workshops, Red Brick Vintage and the Botton boutique are just a few of the many things on offer in the tantalising baltic triangle.
10. The Brookhouse
In the previously mentioned student infested area, Smithdown, you’ll find a students paradise. The Brookhouse pub is a magnet for local students and how could it not be with the jaw-dropping price of £1.50 for a pint! This money saving hot spot is simply one of many and is just another benefit of going to uni in Liverpool, so, how could you resist?!
