Best Spots To Eat A Real Pizza In Bristol

Everybody in the world is in love with this iconic food of the Italian culinary heritage. During years, we have seen lots of its reinterpretations, some of them have made our Neapolitan fellows cringe. Hands off from pizza, it’s a serious deal! Although there are pizzerias in any corner of the globe, not all offer a traditional and tasty product. Indeed, if ingredients and cooking process are relatively easy and straight forward, the mastery art is difficult to acquire.

Bristol is a city with a lively and variegated food scene. Bristolians love try different type of kitchens and pizza is always a good choice. Among all the pizza places that you can find around the city, you should choose with care the right spot for not having unpleasant surprises. The good news is that it’s possible eating a perfect pizza in Bristol! So, Bristolians pizza lovers, check this list out and take note of these names.

1. Bosco Pizzeria

With two shops under their belt, one in Whiteladies Road and the other in Clifton Village, Bosco is without a doubt one of the best spot to eat a real pizza in Bristol. Truly traditional Italian toppings, wood-fired oven and, most important, dough prepared with mastery: these are the key secrets for their success. Throughout the menu, you will find interesting combinations that reflect influences from Naples and New York. Try the “Fresca” – tomato sauce, buffalo mozzarella, prosciutto di Parma, rocket and parmesan. Absolutely my favourite!

2. Bertha’s Pizza

Named as one of the best pizza providers outside London by the Guardian, Bertha’s has driven Bristolians pizza lovers crazy since its opening. At the heart of its success is a perfect dough, which is made using the traditionally “mother” sourdough. This is a symbiotic mix of wild yeast, bacteria and enzymes that allows to a longer ferment process. So, you will find a final product both delicious and easy digestible. On top of that, toppings selected from the best local producers, chosen in the name of freshness and seasonability. A menu that presents classics as well as unusual combinations, all worth a try! Plus, match one of the best pizza in Bristol with one of the Negroni variations that they offer. Banging!

3. Pizza Workshop

Two shops, one on North Street and the other on Whiteladies Road, bring to Bristolians true Neapolitan flavours since 2015. One thing but well made is their secret! A light and delicious dough with which they made tasty pizzas and “bocca”. Boccas are essentially sandwiches made with the same dough, filled and melted in the pizza oven. Trust me, when you will try it, you couldn’t live anymore without! A short menu but toppings are fresh and 100% made in Italy, like their homemade tomato sauce using San Marzano tomatoes. On top of that, a nice offer of local craft beer to combine with your meal. What can you ask for more?

They serve up delicious sourdough pizzas, with locally sourced ingredients, baked in a wood-burning oven, fresh sides and fine ales from the Wiper and True brewery. A perfect match! 5. The Oven, Bath

Although it isn’t located in Bristol but in the near Bath, I couldn’t not include this amazing pizzeria in the list. An independent award-winning artisan pizzeria, The Oven has established an outstanding reputation, specialising in authentic Neapolitan pizza. A mastery dough, that follow the secret recipe of Fabrizio Mancinetti – head chef and winner of pizza chef of the year in 2016 – which donates to the pizzas a puffy crust and unique flavour.
