The 10 Best Places To Get Brunch In Newcastle

I am no stranger to brunch. The thought of scrambled eggs, hot buttery toast, and waffles dripping in maple syrup gives me butterflies and has me flying straight to the nearest cafe. In fact, there is no doubt in my mind that brunch is the best meal of the day. Not only does it allow you to have a lie in without missing breakfast, but it’s perfectly acceptable to swap your morning cuppa for a glass of boozy goodness. Champagne? Yes please. Mimosas? Why certainly. Bloody Mary’s? I think you get the idea. So if you’re new to the town, or are simply interested in some brunch, here are the top 10 places to get brunch in Newcastle!

1. Cafe 1901

Not only is the food to die for, but Cafe 1901 serves brunch all day. I repeat, all day. Soak up the quirky decor as you munch your way through the menu (veggie and vegan options are also available). Dogs are welcome here too, so you can feast your eyes as well as your stomach.

2. Arlo

Arlo is an all time favourite with the locals, and so you’ll often find queues trailing out the door. Once you try the food, you’ll understand why.

3. Quilliams Brothers Teahouse

Not just your average brew. The varieties of tea Quilliams has to offer spans for pages, and wow is it good. My personal faves include Apple Strudel Rooibos (yes, you read that right), and Oh, Christmas Tea (it’s Christmas in a cup!). Enjoy your cuppa with a stack of pancakes or eggs benedict.

4. The McCrouzer Cafe

Relatively new to the Newcastle brunch scene, McCrouzer already ranks high on the list. This affordable little cafe is decked with fairy lights and board games for a cosy morning meal. And once you’ve finished your brunch, there are plenty of freshly baked cakes just waiting to be eaten.

5. Olive and Bean

Right in the heart of town, this cafe has decadence written all over it. I’m talking tiffins in every flavour you can think of, and cakes the size of my head (exaggeration may occur). If you fancy a more traditional brunch, the cafe also has a large menu of all the classics. If that isn’t enough to tempt you, wine and champagne are available in abundance. Enough said.

6. Butterfly Cabinet

So I might have been exaggerating before, but the servings here really are the size of my head. Prepare to leave at least two stone heavier. Fussy eater? No problem! Here you can make up your own brunch from the many options available. Plus, there is a veggie alternative to every meat dish, so no one goes unfed.

7. The Great British Cupcakery

Yes, I know this is a cake parlour. Yes, I will have cake for breakfast thank you very much. If you ever fancy a sweet treat, this is the place to go. Famous for their extensive list of pintsize milkshakes, the Great British Cupcakery will not disappoint (although it may lead to diabetes).

8. Quay Ingredient

Located near the Quayside, this quaint little cafe offers all the classics and more. While you’re there, why not take a post-brunch stroll down the Tyne and walk off all that scrambled egg.

9. Cafe Royal

When the student loan comes in, brunch is waiting for you at Cafe Royal. From smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, to deliciously decadent French toast, the food here is sure to treat the taste buds. To top it off, brunch is served all day on Sundays. Breakfast for dinner? Yes please.

10. The Naked Deli

Hang on, brunch can be healthy and delicious? Yup, I was shocked too. For all-natural meals that taste oh-so-good, pop over to The Naked Deli for your brunch fix. If it’s healthy, we can have cake for dessert, right?

Bonus: Greggs

I know it’s hardly luxury, but Newcastle would not be Newcastle without its favourite bakery. Don’t let your bank balance keep you from your brunch. Treat yourself to a bacon roll, a hearty stottie or pasty and find a nice spot to enjoy it in. Who said brunch had to be expensive?

So there you have it. That’s the ultimate ranking of the best brunches in Newcastle. If there’s a hidden gem I’ve yet to find, please let me know! May the love of brunch live on forever.
