When you’re decorating a new place on a budget, whether it’s your first flat or your bedroom in halls, it can be difficult to find items that look exactly right without breaking the bank. Sometimes it’s all too tempting to blow your entire budget on one item just because it looks like the right one. Here is a list of places that provide chic and affordable home decor so you can decorate your entire place within budget, to a style that suits you!
A somewhat predictable number 1 on the list, Ikea is incredibly well known for it’s affordable flat pack furnishings and of course, the legendary Ikea meatballs that you can’t complete a trip to Ikea without. However, Ikea also sell a wide range of smaller home décor items at a very affordable cost, such as candles, plants, vases, photo frames, etc etc. Whether you’re looking for small finishing touches, such as tealight holders, or bigger decorative items, Ikea probably has it. Their classy Scandinavian style means that your room will look great at an affordable cost!
Søstrene Grene is a charming little Danish store, and the original owners Anna and Clara are featured throughout, offering home design and DIY tips. It has been dubbed in the media as the ‘small Ikea’, but is making its own presence with their range of home décor, craft and gift items. Their products are delicate, often feminine, beautiful and super affordable! Currently the store does not have products available online, and only has two UK branches – Chester and Nottingham – with more in Ireland, and more UK expansion expected soon. This is affordable home decor that is minimalist.
Primark is our high-street saviour for affordable clothing and shoes, but their home décor selection is vast and varied! They offer a lot of bright and bold décor, as well as candles, reed diffusers, bedding, bathroom décor and more. This is one of the best places to easily pick up affordable home décor if you’re on a tight budget! Though you can’t order online, you can look through their collection so you know what you’re looking for when you arrive. This is really useful with such a big collection in what is always such a busy store!
Tesco are much more than simply a food supermarket, and their range of home décor is vast and incredibly affordable. Online, they also sell products from a range of selected Tesco Partners, meaning that the range is even bigger than you might find in your local store, and they are available for home delivery or click and collect.
H&M is another affordable high street shop for which you don’t necessarily think of heading to when decorating your home. However, they have a wide range of affordable products which are on-sale both on their website and in-store. On their website, you can select to shop by room, and they have a range of products so there is something for everyone, no matter your taste in home décor, and they look much more expensive than they are! Their wide range of bathroom décor and towels is particularly great if you’re looking to freshen up your bathroom with some new items. This is affordable home decor that is trendy and modern.
Hema is originally a Dutch discount retailer, but has expanded and now has some stores in the UK and Europe. Their products are also available online for delivery, meaning you can still shop with them even if you don’t have a local store. Hema’s home décor is quite simple and minimalist, whilst being sleek and attractive. They are particularly good for home décor for your living room or bedroom, such as candles, plant pots, cushion covers and throws.
Wilko is a common sight on the UK high street, and their affordable yet attractive home décor items are perfect for students on a budget! Wilko is particularly good for kitchen wares and home décor basics. This is affordable home decor that is stylish.
The Range sells everything you could possibly think of for your home, including rugs, lanterns, ornaments, vases and artificial plants. You’ll be able to find perfect little items to improve your home décor for affordable prices, no matter which room in your home you are trying to decorate.
Though maybe not quite as affordable as some of the other places on this list, if ethically sourced and unique home décor is important to you, this is a good place to look! This company has a list of it’s 10 ethical trade principals on it’s About Us page, including supporting fair trade, empowering women, nurturing small business and protecting the environment – meaning you know that any home décor pieces you buy from here is helping the world become a better and fairer place.
