Manchester’s diverse bar scene has something for everyone’s taste. Each bar offers a different vibe whether it’s the music, food, views or entertainment. Due to there being so many amazing bars within walking distance, I have narrowed down a list of the top 10 places you can go for fun and fancy drinks in Manchester with your partner, friends, family or co-workers.
Manchester is lucky to have two Alchemist bars located in the city centre. Both bars have a great vibe and it does get quite busy on weekends because it’s definitely a place you’d want to try even if you just have one drink.
The Alchemist has a range of hand-crafted cocktails and drink-making techniques that will surprise your eyes and your taste buds. If you get there early, they even offer a food menu with a selection of tapas, gourmet burgers and salads.
The Manchester House is a bar situated on Level 12 of the Tower Twelve. The Lounge offers spectacular views of the city’s skyline and has a nice haven where you can relax with friends. Although the prices may be surprising for some, the delicious cocktails make up for it.
Cloud 23 offers exclusive cocktails and a spectacular sky line view of the city. When you first arrive in the Hilton Hotel, you will be ticked off an exclusive guest list (so I suggest you book in advance to avoid disappointment) then sent towards an exclusive private lift up to the 23rd floor. If you can, try and get a seat closest to the floor-to-ceiling windows to revel in an evening of elegance. Cloud 23 is known for the ‘Best Cocktail in Manchester’ for 3 years running from 2008-2010.
Be At One is located in Deansgate and has a late license so people can enjoy themselves until the early hours. The cocktail bar offers over 150 different drinks so there should be something you’d like on the list. The space has a lot of neon lights and gives off natural urban party vibes. With great service and professional mixologists, this is one of the popular places to be in the city. The bar has multiple locations in cities all over the UK.
The Liquor Store brings a Los Angeles feel into the heart of Manchester with it being a café and a cocktail bar which is open until 3 a.m. every night. The vintage neon bar sign adds a quirkiness to Deansgate with a wall dedicated to musical greats, music inspired cocktails and some Mancunian music playing in the background.
Tusk brings a little piece of Africa to the Northern Quarter with its tribal surroundings, intimate cocktail bar and its delicious cocktails. Why not try something different? The menu offers various cocktails and food to suit anyone’s taste. The interior is a combination of earthy and ethnic materials as well as exposed brick to give it a homely vibe.
In the heart of Manchester’s Northern Quarter, this bar isn’t as easy to find due to the outside looking like an old-fashioned pawn shop. The dark speak easy style bar has the best mixologists making a range of cocktails while an old jukebox plays music. The bar has cluttered window displays and is filled with vintage items including TV’s, radios and instruments. They try to add new cocktails every week to challenge your taste buds. They are also willing to make your favourite cocktail if asked!
The Fitzgerald which is located close to Piccadilly garden, offers a drinking spot in the prohibition era. The bar has a back-street entrance with a dark and moody interior. It channels a 1920’s vibe with its glassware and vintage décor as well as its delicious cocktails and lively playlist.
If you are looking for a more urban and refined evening in Manchester then I suggest you go to Épernay, where the champagne is already chilled and ready to pop. It’s one of the city’s most sophisticated drinking spots with its glamorous interior which include fairy lights and candles to create a romantic ambience for drinkers. There is a small cocktail menu for anyone who doesn’t like wine or champagne.
To be reopened this week, the Liars Club is one of the growing breed of cool tiki cocktail bars. The dark atmosphere offers a tropical dive that brings Caribbean vibes to the city. The Liars Club is designed to a tiki paradise that brings fun, party vibes every night. The bar offers an amazing rum collection with over 100 rums from all over the Caribbean.
In Manchester, there is no shortage of places to drink within the city centre or nearby areas. Make sure you prepare yourself for a good night out and try as many bars as possible or at least plan to revisit as new bars pop open every couple of months!
