There are so many dessert places in London that finding the best ones can be quite overwhelming. There’s a whole lot of variety, as well. You could find some interesting street food/dessert places from different cultures in Old Spitalfields Market, you can get Lola’s cupcakes in underground stations, there are at least five great dessert places at BoxPark Shoreditch (and it’s tiny!), there are just too many options.
It’s hard to keep track of the best dessert places, but as someone with a massive sweet tooth, I can immediately name my top five, no hesitation. This list could have definitely been longer and I’m sure some people may have very different favourites. However, these five dessert places are undoubtedly among the best in London and my personal favourites, which I think you should definitely try.
People don’t necessarily think dessert when they think ‘Ask Italian’. This is the spot you go to be surprised because they have surprisingly good desserts. I still think about the first time I had the Chocolate Etna in Swindon a few years ago. That’s how much it surprised and impressed me.
The best thing is, you can go to Ask Italian for a whole meal, it doesn’t have to be just dessert. Although I would definitely go just to have this dark chocolate cup that melts under the hot toffee sauce revealing a delicious chocolate fondant, topped with vanilla gelato. Heavenly!
The French know how to make desserts. Among all these dessert places, Belle Epoque Patisserie is probably the one I’ve visited most often. It’s absolutely mouth-watering. All of their desserts are brilliant and extremely beautiful!
They know how to craft something that looks almost as good as it tastes. They always make themed desserts for the holidays – Easter, Halloween, Christmas. The Christmas desserts actually taste like Christmas. It’s incredible!
Hands down, the best ice cream I’ve ever had. Chin Chin Labs serve not only ice cream but also some brilliant ice cream desserts. When I went I had their signature burnt butter caramel ice cream in a killer marshmallow cone. It was spectacular, the caramel balances the marshmallow very well.
The cone is not only beautiful but quite tasty, though very sweet. The texture, however, the texture of this ice cream is perfect. It’s so glossy and creamy. Anything you could ever want from ice cream and more.
Kova Patisserie is probably one of the best-known dessert places for the famous, trendy jiggly Japanese cheesecake, which can be found among their range of cakes. They also specialise in organic Japanese teas and have great coffee. Their aim is to give Londoners a taste of café culture from East Asia. And that taste is definitely delicious.
The name kind of gives it away, but Kova Patisserie takes elements from both Japanese and French cuisine to create its unique cakes, incorporating ingredients sourced directly from farmers in Japan and France. Their main bake styles are Mille Crêpes, Strawberry Shortcake and Roll Cake.
If someone in London knows how to do cupcakes, that’s Crumbs and Doilies. This is one of my favourite dessert places because there’s always something new and exciting to try out. They often recreate famous sweets or do themed cupcakes. They also do proper large cakes if you are looking to have a slice of cake rather than a cupcake.
I always stop by for a cupcake during London pride, because Crumbs and Doilies are very conveniently located at Carnaby Street. They also very pretty rainbow cakes and cupcakes. All in all, if you are a fan of cupcakes you will be a fan of this place.
