Now Christmas movies are always on TV but maybe you want to choose which one you want to watch this time. Need some ideas? Here are some of the best Christmas movies to get you in the holiday spirit. They can vary in genre but are all still Christmassy af. So, they will hopefully help that holiday spirit light up inside you. Are you as excited as we are? Let’s get christmasssssy!
And, in no particular order… I present to you the best Christmas movies to get you in the holiday spirit:
Elf (2003)
This Christmas classic is always on TV. Will Ferrell keeps us laughing as he plays Buddy the elf. Going from his life in the North Pole to bustling New York, Buddy struggles to fit in on his quest to find his family and their acceptance. A perfect Christmas movie to get you giggling into the Christmas spirit.
The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
This cartoon is a mash up of Halloween and Christmas all into one. With an awesome sound track, see how Jack, the pumpkin king, decides he wants to take over Christmas. “Grown so tired of the same old thing?” check out this Christmas movie with a darker side.
Home Alone (1990)
Little Macaulay Culkin plays Kevin McCallister in this hilarious movie about a little boy accidentally left at home by his family at Christmas. Watch how Kevin becomes an independent man of the house at only 8 years old. Oh he also sets the funniest and best boobie traps for a couple of persistent thieves. A great Christmas movie to get you in the holiday spirit, prove me wrong “ya filthy animals.”
Arthur Christmas (2011)
A cartoon of Christmas perseverance and heart warming intentions. Arthur Christmas sets off to save the day when it appears Santa has accidentally missed out one child this Christmas. Arthur has a lot to learn on his journey, a lovely way to get into the holiday spirit.
The Polar Express (2004)
This Christmas movie makes you believe in Christmas again. As the main character goes on a journey to quell his doubts about the magic of Christmas. The beautiful animation in this movie also contributes to that wonderful feeling of Christmas.
Love Actually
Another favourite movie shown on the TV as a top Christmas hit. Follow a variety of stories that eventually all come together some how. See Christmas from all different angles but all ones which have love at the centre. A Christmas movie to help you feel the love all around.
The Grinch (2000)
The book by Dr. Seuss comes alive with a fantastic portrayal of the Grinch by Jim Carrey. The Grinch initially hates Christmas and the Whos of Whoville. He concocts a malicious plan to steal Christmas from the Whos, who adore Christmas. This is a hilarious movie with a touching ending. One of the best Christmas movies to get you in the holiday spirit.
Also! There is a new 2018 cartoon Grinch edition coming soon – so be sure to check that out.
A Muppets Christmas Carol (1992)
Dickens famous tale with a muppets twist. This take on the classic story is extremely popular for its comedic introduction into Christmas. You know the story, but you haven’t heard it told this way!
Gremlins (1984)
Now this movie is a touch on horror and Christmas. These creepy little characters upset Christmas in a twisted movie. This will certainly put you in the Christmas spirit… but in a kind of I’m so terrified kind of way. Have your microwaves at the ready…
Die Hard (1988)
Now this is a controversial one… the movie is technically set at Christmas… but it doesn’t have that much of a Christmassy vibe. But it is an awesome action packed thriller starring Bruce Willis. So if that’s your thing, maybe you can convince your friends it’s a Christmas movie so you can get into the Christmas spirit in a hardcore way.
Miracle on 34th Street (1994)
Another one to make you believe in the magic again.
It’s a Wonderful Life (1946)
This is an awesome movie that makes us all cry at the end every time. Don’t deny it. This black and white classic shows George Bailey, and us all, how we can and have made good impacts on everyone around us. We all need to be a little more like George Bailey.
I hope this list inspires you and helps you get into the Christmas holiday spirit one way or another.
