British Netflix doesn’t have the best film selection, but some of the animated classics it has on offer really do bring back fond childhood memories of sitting in front of the telly for hours on end without a care in the world. These Golden Oldies are still popular today and it’s comforting to know they’re only a Netflix flick away. If you’re ready to begin a few hours of procrastination, check out some of these animated movies on Netflix!
This much-loved all-star ensemble feels like it came out within recent memory but can you believe Alex the Lion and Marty the Zebra first graced the big screen more than 10 years ago?! There are currently 3 films in the franchise, and amongst rumours that there’s set to be a 4th! I’m not always a fan of sequels but I really love those sassy penguins.
In my humble opinion, this is a Will Smith classic. With another all-star cast, Shark Tale tells the story of an underdog that comes out on top. Rewatch this if you want to watch movie legend Robert De Niro play a shark and Angelina Jolie act sexy even as a fish.
Okay, it might be just because I’m a massive scaredy-cat, but as a 9-year old, this film really creeped me out. Think almost-Coraline levels of terror. Which for me is a lot. But unlike the tired plot lines of some children’s films today (yes Gnomeo and Juliet I’m talking to you) this was a pretty good film with an original story.
Shrek is a film you can watch every year at Christmas-time and the nostalgia will return, each and every time. The original has inspired sequels, short films, it’s own adventure attraction by the Thames and a rather twisted video called, ‘Shrek is Love, Shrek is Life’ (watch only if you want to be disturbed). The fifth and final film of the franchise is set to be released in 2020! Who else is excited?!
Remember this little whimsical film. My 4-year old niece absolutely loves this film, which goes to show you that great films never die.
For a film about rats, Flushed Away is really rather good, and was nominated for a Bafta! It’s no Ratatouille, but this incredibly creative film is enjoyable for kids and adults alike. This is one of the best-animated movies on Netflix!
This heartwarming story about an adventurous and pioneering stallion shows that sometimes you really can’t break a strong spirit. It’s accompanied by a wonderful, uplifting soundtrack.
This is an oldie but a goodie. Antz may have come out before you were born but that doesn’t value the quality animation behind this 90s film. This kids’ classic attempts to break away at hierarchical barriers and is pretty deep for a children’s film.
