The Best And Worst Parts Of Living In Jesmond

Jesmond is disputed to be the best student location in Newcastle, with much to its name. But of course, no student area is going to be perfect to live in. Here are the best and worst parts of living in Jesmond.

1. Tesco’s reduced section

If you ever find yourself coming back from the Robbo after 6 pm, heading to Tesco’s is the best thing you can do. The things you can find in the reduced section are sought after, and unchallenged by any other Jesmond supermarket. A 4-pack for £1.75? Yes.

2. Tesco’s is a social gathering

There is nothing more annoying than wanting to hide the fact your paying for a tin of soup with 5p’s and the whole of your course being in Tesco at the same time. The freezer section might as well put sofa’s and a bar in there because you can’t go not expecting an unwanted chat.

3. Osborne Road is the best street in Newcastle

From standard Blanc and Osborne’s, to quirky Jam Jar and 97& Social- Osborne Road has everything a student could ask for. Having everything you could possibly want on one road is a saviour, and there is no need to trek into town.

4. Osborne Road will rinse your bank account

It’s too easy to pop in for a drink (or a few) after uni, and way too easy to convince your housemates to join you on a last-minute trip to student drinking central. £2 Tuesdays might sound great- but not when you go every other day as well.

5. Students don’t judge

Jesmond being full of students is a dream. Do you want to go to the shop in your PJ’s because nobodies got any milk left? You go, girl. Accidentally slept at a “mates” house and need to walk home in last nights clothes? You do you. Nobody will care.

6. Students are loud

If you thought of moving from halls to a house in Jesmond would better your chances of getting a good night’s sleep when you need one, think again. Walls are thin, and you will 100% hear next door’s pres and house parties that have spilt into the street.

7. When it’s sunny, you know it

Nowhere does Summer like Jesmond does. As soon as it reaches above 1o degrees, people set up shop outside their front door, make bonfires and bars in their back gardens, and host gatherings of their roofs. There is no way you can’t have fun living in Jesmond when the sun is shining.

8. When it’s raining, you know it too

Students are the laziest breed of human, and we just don’t want to leave our beds if we can hear the rain outside. Which makes Jesmond one of the quietest places to be when it’s colder. Even your house will be quiet because you refuse to pay the heating bill and have to stay in bed.
