15 Best 80’s Songs You Need On Your Playlist

If you’re into 80’s music then you’re sure to know the majority of these songs, however if you’re knew to this genre then I would recommend checking out every song on the list below. These are my personal top pics from my own 80’s playlist so get listening!

1. Dexys Midnight Runners- Come on Eileen

This is one of my all-time favourite songs and never gets old. The build up to the chorus is truly great and really gets you ready for what’s to come next. If you don’t wear a pair of baggy dungarees and learn the dance from ‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower’, then you’re doing it all wrong I’m afraid.

2. Toto – Africa

Toto’s Africa has massively taken off this year, and so if you don’t know it already then where have you been? There is honestly no better feeling than singing this at the top of your lungs. Undeniably a must have from the 80’s.

3. Rupert Holmes – Escape (The Pina Colada Song)

This song is more widely known as ‘The Pina Colada Song’ and while the chorus is extremely catchy, this song all comes down to the lyrics. This song is set out as a story and a hilarious one at that so if you’ve never paid attention to it before, then get your headphones and listen closely.

4. Redbone – Come and get your love

Redbone’s song has probably become famous recently due to the Guardians of the Galaxy films (which also have great soundtracks). The song is simple but very catchy and will soon have your head bopping to the beat which persist through the song.

5. Blue Suede, Bjorn Skifs – Hooked on a feeling

Now this may start weird, and you may ask who these men are chanting, but trust me. This is one of the best songs of the 80’s and once the chanting stops is a song that will definitely get you up and dancing.

6. Silver – Wham Bam Shang-A-Lang

Although not very well known in the 80’s, this song has definitely become quite popular in recent years. It doesn’t matter if you don’t know what Wham Bam Shang-A-Lang means, because who really does. All that matters is this is a song you definitely need on your playlist.

7. The Outfield – Your Love

This is another song that tells a story and if you listen to the lyrics you will be hooked completely. It leaves you wanting to hear more and is one you could definitely sit listening to on repeat.

8. Prince – I Wanna Be Your Lover

Because is it really an 80’s playlist without a bit of Prince. I personally think this is one of Prince’s best songs and is one that will get you dancing for sure from the beginning.

9. Daryl Hall & John Oates – You Make My Dreams

This is 100% a feel good song! The beat builds from the start and really gets you moving. If this song comes on when you’re out, then everyone will be on the dancefloor.

10. Cyndi Lauper – Girls Just Want to Have Fun

Girls just want to have fun is a complete classic and one that everyone knows, so if it’s not already on your 80’s playlist, then what have you been doing? Get on it!

11. Prince – Kiss

I know, Prince again. But you honestly can’t go wrong with these songs. This is definitely a song that builds so hang in there. Once it hits the chorus and Prince breaks out those high notes you’ll love it.

12. Billy Joel – Uptown girl

An 80’s favourite that has stayed popular all these years. Even if you didn’t know you knew the words, you’ll soon be signing your heart out. Sing it Billy!

13. Madonna – Like A Virgin

As well as being a great song to hear on a night out, it also is great for confidence and 100% makes woman feel sexy when they listen to it. So, if you’re looking for a little girl power before your night out the Madonna has you covered.

14. Marvin Gaye – Sexual Healing

Just like Madonna this song will get you feeling sexy and ready for the night in no time. And although it is a bit slower than the others, it is sure to get your hips moving.

15. Wham! – Club Tropicana

There is no better way to finish an 80’s playlist than with a bit of Wham! The build-up to this song is enough to get me dancing, and there’s nothing better than hitting that chorus for the first time and throwing your hands in the air.
