15 Beauty Travel Tips Every Glam Girl Should Know

Summer is just around the corner so, if you’re anything like us, your mind is already on a beach somewhere. Holiday prep, however, can be stressful and it can be difficult to remember to get everything done and pack everything with you before you go away. Traveling, especially on long flights, can also make you feel gross so it’s important to look after yourself so that you can properly relax and have fun whilst you’re away! Start your holiday off right by following these beauty travel tips – designed to help you look and feel your best on-the-go.

1. Pack less!

Save space in your bag (for all those outfit options) by opting for smaller sizes of your favourite beauty products. Boots or Superdrug usually sell shampoo and conditioners in miniature sizes so that they can be taken through security with you. If your beauty essential of choice only comes in full-size, it is a good idea to decant the product into smaller plastic jars and bottles to save more packing room.

2. Prep your skin

Your skin is often the first thing to suffer during travel, especially on a long flight or train journey. It is important that you look after it properly, especially if you’re going away to the beach or warmer climates. Use a good exfoliating scrub or pamper yourself whilst you pack with a face mask. Avoid going out in the sun right after exfoliating as your skin will be more prone to sunburn.

3. Exfoliate

Use a loofah or body scrub to get rid of any dry skin, especially on your legs. This should already be part of your routine in order to avoid those unwanted ingrown hairs.

4. Wax

Although more difficult (and painful) to do yourself, waxing can help you save time in the long-run. A definite-must if you’re planning to be in a bikini, as it pulls hair out from the root. This means that you don’t have to worry about hair growing back, and you can enjoy beautifully-smooth skin for longer. Schedule in your appointment a few days before going away for best results.

5. Mani/Pedis

A good manicure always makes you feel like you have your life together. If you’re hitting the beach, opt for a brighter colour as this will help to accentuate your tan. Pedicures are also a must if you plan to be in sandals. A gel polish on the toes lasts for a long time and means that you don’t have to wait around for it to dry.

6. Care for your Hair

A hair mask can be a great way to show your hair some love. Like your skin, your hair can suffer and feel greasy or dried out after long travels. A hair mask can help to give it back its shine. If you’re blond, remember to pack a silver/purple shampoo to keep your hair shiny and less brassy!

7. Sheet Masks

Didn’t have time for the facial pre-flight? No worries! Pack a hydrating sheet face mask for the plane – just be prepared for some funny looks. This is definitely one of the best beauty travel tips!

8. Invest in a BB/CC Cream (with SPF)

Whilst you might be chasing the sun, remember that it can be extremely damaging to the skin. A good SPF BB/CC cream to replace your foundation on holiday and protect your skin from harmful rays. Whether you’re looking for more coverage, anti-aging benefits, or something to brighten up your skin, there is a cream for everyone!

9. Stay Hydrated

Remember to look after yourself (and your skin) from the inside by drinking enough water whilst you travel. Bring a reusable water bottle (preferably with a built-in filter) so you can fill it up wherever you go. Your body will thank you if you’re better hydrated, which is why this is one of the best beauty travel tips!

10. Protect your lips

Don’t forget about your lips when it comes to SPF. They are often one of the first places to get sunburnt and chapped lips are never a good look! Invest in a lip balm with SPF 15 or higher if you’re planning on lying on the beach.

11. Spray and Go

Dry shampoo is a girl’s best friend! Avoid greasy hair and give your hair a more glamorous, voluminous look by giving it a little spritz of dry shampoo. Better yet is that it’s easy to bring with you wherever you go – a must for all travellers!

12. Wet Wipes…?

Not the most glamorous of essentials but very practical when you need to freshen up after a long journey. Wipes can also be used to clean your hands without washing them, which is important if you’re planning on traveling somewhere more remote.

13. File and Buff

Didn’t have time for a mani/pedi before your left? No-one wants unsightly chapped feet or nails that look dirty! File your nails on-the-go with a nail file that can be kept in your handbag.

14. Keep it Natural

Coconut Oil is cheap to buy and can solve pretty much anything. Leave it on as a hair mask or apply it to your face if your skin is feeling dry. Aloe Vera is great after being in the sun as it is super hydrating and natural! This is definitely one of the best beauty travel tips!

15. Moisturize

Avoid dehydrated skin by applying a body lotion after showering. Once you return from your exotic getaway in the sun, a body lotion can also help to prolong your gorgeous suntan. Self-conscious about showing off your legs? Achieve a more bronzed look by going for a lotion that also acts as a gradual tanning moisturizer – get the glam girl glow!
