We all know those beauty hacks we hear of that make us think ‘Hmm, would that really work?’ Well thanks to YouTube user Ellko, we can find out if these 4 beauty DIY hacks are fails or holy grails! Read on to find out!
This one, among the DIY beauty hacks, involves sleeping with a ton of straws and bobby pins in your hair for gorgeous, long-lasting curls. You take sections of your hair, spray it with water so it’s damp, and wrap it around a straw, securing the straw into your hair with a bobby pin. You do this until all of your hair is wrapped and pinned. Sleep with the straws in overnight and take them out in the morning for gorgeous, bouncy curls. This beauty hack is definitely a holy grail if you like tight, natural-looking, bouncy curls.
This beauty hack involves melting crayons and coconut oil together to form your very own lipstick. Get excited! Take a pot of water and place it on the stove. You only want enough water in your pot to reach the bottom half of your dish (that’s going to hold the ingredients to melt). Take your crayons and cut them an inch from the tip, and take the paper off the crayons so you’re left with just the wax. If you want an opaque lipstick, use 1/4 of a teaspoon of coconut oil. If you want a sheer lipstick, use 1/2 of a teaspoon of coconut oil. Add 1 crayon shade and your coconut oil to your dish and place the dish in the pot of water. Please make sure the water from the pot isn’t getting into your dish and make sure you only turn the stove on when your dish is already in the pot. Heat your dish on a low setting for 3 minutes, until your ingredients have melted together. Transfer your ingredients into a container and wait for them to solidify. This DIY beauty hack is definitely a holy grail if you layer your product a couple of times and only with certain crayon colours. However, it is also a fail as the formula and consistency of the DIY Mac lipsticks weren’t pleasant on the lips. This is a DIY beauty hack that you’ll have to try for yourself!
If you love the look of matte nails, then this DIY beauty hack may be for you! Start off with your nails painted, with no top coat on them. Take a pinch of cornstarch and place it on a sheet of foil (to protect whatever surface you’re working on). Pour some of your usual top coat next to the cornstarch on the foil. Take a brush, pick up a bit of that cornstarch and mix it with your top coat. Repeat this process until your top coat looks cloudy. Once you think your top coat is ready, apply it to your nails. It should go on glossy, but dry matte. This is definitely a holy grail DIY beauty hack! You can achieve amazing matte nails with this DIY beauty hack, you just need to experiment with the amount of cornstarch you use.
Grab some unflavoured gelatin and milk and you’re good to go with this DIY beauty hack! Place a tablespoon of gelatin into your bowl or cup, then add 1 and a half – 2 tablespoons of milk to your mixture and stir until it forms a paste-like consistency. Place your mixture into the microwave for 10-15 seconds and then immediately put it onto your face (where you would usually get blackheads). Do not let the mixture cool down and harden, you have to be quick with this beauty DIY hack. Leave the mixture on your face for about 15-20 minutes, or until it has completely hardened. Peel it off and see if it worked! For Ellko, this DIY beauty hack is definitely a fail. After trying this DIY beauty hack twice in a row, she didn’t get impressive results. However, everyone’s skin is different, so give it a go and see if it works for you!
