Boxing is the workout of choice for many of our favourite supermodels (hi Gigi Hadid!) and it’s no secret why. It’s fun, hard work and will make you feel like a badass! Luckily, many London boutique boxing gyms can be found for you and your friends to box-ercise. Although classes are more expensive than a regular gym membership, they make working out fun again and can help to boost your motivation if you feel like you’ve lost it. We’ve found five of our favourite London boutique boxing gyms that you really need to try.
KOBOX is an amazing workout split into bag work and strength/HIIT exercises on the wall. They offer 50 or 30 minute high intensity classes that help you to improve your boxing skills. The instructors are super motivating and will guide you through various exercises and the boxing combos so it’s easy to keep up even if you’re new to boxing. Each day at KOBOX focuses on a different muscle group i.e. lower body, upper body, core or full body. “At KOBOX you will get fit, without getting hit!” They have two studios in Chelsea or in the City (London Wall).
1Rebel is a boutique gym that offers boxing, spinning and treadmill (Reshape) classes. Rumble is a 45 minute boxing/HIIT class that incorporates speed, footwork, strength and high energy. It’s great for beginners as you will be guided through the basics like a correct boxer’s stance, jab, cross and punching combinations. They now have studios all over the city: Broadgate, St Mary Axe, Southbank, Bayswater and Victoria. No excuse not to try!
BXR London, aka “London’s Finest Boxing Gym,” first launched in Marylebone just last year. They are a boutique boxing gym “dedicated to developing a championship mindset.” Backed by the professional boxer Anthony Joshua, they offer the standard of training, facilities and advice that is expected by professional athletes, regardless of level of ability. BXR offers classes based on a range of combat disciplines, strength & conditioning exercises, private boxing lessons, circuit training, group classes, boxing fitness as well as treatments and nutrition advice for those that really want to take their boxing to the next level.
Blok is where “award-winning boutique fitness meets art, design and fashion”. As well as a variety of other kinds of classes, Blok offers three kinds of boxercise classes: boxing, box & bell and boxcon. Their more traditional boxing classes are designed to give a solid grounding in boxing fitness and technique – so they are suitable for beginners or advanced boxers who want to train hard and increase their speed and agility. Box & bell incorporates kettle bell work to build up core strength whereas boxcon is a high-intensity, high-energy challenging boxing class – Blok’s signature boxing conditioning class! At the moment, they have two studio locations in Clapton and Shoreditch.
This HIIT class will whip you into shape with high-energy punch bag work so that you burn calories for hours after you’ve left the studio. Instructors lead you through a warm up, then into three intense challenges focusing on speed, power and x-plosive, finishing with an all out team effort followed by stretches to release tension and recover. The boutique studio has 12 boxing bags, TRX and sand bells. Another Space also offers yoga and spinning classes. Another Space has two studio locations in Covent Garden and Bank.
