The First Apartment Decorating Checklist You 100% Need

Moving into your first apartment will be one of the most exciting experiences in your life. It reflects the important step of changing, from being a student into finally adulting. Moving into your own place is you chance to finally get your life together and be independent and a grown – up woman who can survive living away from Mum and Dad. If you are thinking of moving into your own place, these are some useful tips that you absolutely need. They will help you make it feel like home and add a personal touch, giving your new living space a vibrant and young feel to it. So, here are the main decorating essentials you 100% need for your first apartment decorating checklist!

1. Invest in good quality furniture

Furniture is probably the most important thing to choose when moving in your first ever apartment. Because you are going to be on your own, you really want everything to look amazing, and of course, reflect your personality and your taste. Make a good investment for the right furniture. For instance, your living room sofa or the kitchen furniture you have always dreamed of. There is no need to spend a fortune for nice and great quality furniture, but the advice is, do some research in advance and compare different stores and prices.

2. Cushions and throws

Make sure you find your perfect style and comfort for your relaxing moments. A new home is not completely home without a cosy area with soft cushions and throws you can slide in as soon as you get home from work. Velvet Throws and fluffy cushions will give a young feel to the entire flat. They are 100% a must for your first apartment decorating. These are super important to have on your apartment decorating checklist!

3. Choose the right paint

Paint has a very important role when it comes to decorating your first apartment. Depending on the colours you choose, it can give a vibrant and modern look to the flat, but if you choose dark colours, these might give the impression of a very closed and small spacing. Stick with light shades such as white, cream or pastels that you can easily paint over when moving out from a rented flat. Neutral colours on walls are great, they always give a sophisticated look to every room, and also visually expand the space.

4. Personalise with art

When moving into your first apartment, you should remember to invest in artistic decorations too. Don’t be too scared to add paintings or artistic photos on your walls. You can still achieve a minimal interior decoration, with the add of your personality to it. If you are into photography, why not try developing some of your work. You could then frame them and place them on your walls or on little coffee tables. Travel shots are also an amazing way to personalise your walls, giving your new apartment a home feel.

5. Choose the right lighting

Lighting is essential. Without the right lamps and lights around your apartment, nothing is going to look unique. Before moving in, you can look for cheap lamps that can fit in your flat. There are many different types, depending on where they are going to be placed. Floor lamps and table lamps are ideal for small apartments, and they can be used to fill in empty corners too. This is really important on apartment decorating checklist!

6. Make your bedroom unique

Your bedroom is probably going to be your sanctuary and it is the one that perhaps you can personalise the most. Invest in a big and comfortable bed, throw on some soft velvet cushions and personalise your walls with a pastel painting colour. You can create a beautiful colour contrast with the main furniture and your accessories by suing your favourite colours to brighten up the room. Things that you 100% need when decorating your bedroom: a full-sized mirror, a makeup station, cute little sofa chairs, a carpet and a big wardrobe where all your clothes can fit in.
