The 7 Anime To Watch For Beginners

You want to start watching anime but don’t know where to begin? Here’s my top 10 anime to watch for beginners – enjoy!

1. Death Note

Death Note is the gateway for many people and is considered to be one of the greatest anime of all time. This is the reason why this anime is first on this list of anime to watch for beginners. This is a psychological thriller that I am sure you will enjoy.

We follow Light Yagami, a top student who picked up a notebook that belonged to a “shinigami” (also called a God of death) that felt from the sky and supposedly give the ability to kill just by writing a name on it. Tired of criminality, Light decides to use the notebook to kill every single criminals on Earth. Soon enough, he attracts the attention of the world-famous detective ‘L’, whose real name and face are unknown and consider that killing, even criminals is wrong. Follows a psychological game between these two geniuses to discover the other’s real identity and sentence him in the name of ‘justice’.

2. Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Not the 2003 version! As good as it is I would personally advise a newbie to watch the 2009 version of the manga called “Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood”. This version is more fast-paced than the previous adaptation and offers a real closing to the story (in my opinion).

After losing their mom, Edward and Alphonse Elric try to bring her back to life. However, alchemy follows strict rule and bringing a dead back to life is strictly forbidden. In consequence, Alphonse lost his entire body and Edward lost his leg and sacrifice his right arm in order to bound his brother’s soul into a suit of armour. We follow their journey to try to get their original body back.

3. Haikyuu

Haikyuu is also a popular anime. This anime is more light-hearted than the other one but it’s as good. It’s a good sports comedy anime to watch. Even people who don’t like sports will enjoy.

Hinata Shoyo is passionate about volleyball after watching a national championship on TV where a player, nicknamed “Little Giant” played. The only issue is his height. He’s quite short for a volleyball player. But, that does not stop him from trying to achieve his dream and join the volleyball team of the same highschool his idol went to.

4. Your Lie In April

There is no fight or amazing superpower in this one, except for the power of music. I guarantee you, after you finished this anime you will want to learn how to play the piano.

Arima Kousei is a piano prodigy. But, he stopped playing after his mom died… until he met Kaori Miyazoni, a violist.

5. Ouran Highschool Host Club

This one is a classic! Many manga/anime lovers started with than one. It’s more romantic and corny that the others, but not less good. For those interest in romantic comedy, this is the anime to watch.

Haruhi Fujioka, a modest girl, manage to get accepted into a top high school thanks to her good grades. This high school only accepts children of rich people. One day, while looking for a quiet place to study,  she enters the host club, composed of 6 of the most handsome boys of the school. Haruhi will be forced to join the club to repay a precious vase she broke.

6. Attack On Titan

Attack on Titan is one of the most popular anime. It’s still ongoing but you’ll not regret watching this.

Giants called Titans, whose origin is unknown, exterminated most of the human race. The remaining survivors find refuge behind a 50 metres wall. For 100 years, humains lived in peace until one day, a titan, taller than the wall, appeared and destroyed the wall to let the titans enters the city. This anime will keep you on the edge of your seat as you’ll never know who will be the next character to die. Beware, this anime contains some really gruesome scenes!

7. My Hero Academia

This one gained a lot of traction since the release of the first season and the fanbase keeps growing. In a short period of time, it became an anime to watch for beginners. But, it’s not surprising because the story is really good and the characters have a lot of depth.

In a world where 80% of the human population possess superpowers called “quirk” are the norm, being a hero became a regulated profession. We follow the adventure of Izuku Midoriya who was born without a quirk but dream of becoming a hero like his role model All Might.
