10 Amazing Food Places In Rhondda Cynon Taf

Although many in Rhondda Cynon Taf will agree that there is no better food than a good old home cooked dinner, these great restaurants come pretty close. Rhondda Cynon Taf isn’t first thought of as a place of food, but hidden between the abundance of terraced houses, are delicious jewels that create the most amazing food. Here are some of the top 10 amazing food places in Rhondda Cynon Taf.

1. The Lion Treorchy

One of my friends and I’s favourite places to go together, The Lion has a vast menu of wonderful food that we all like to try at least once. I personally recommend the Chicken and Bacon Tagliatelle or the Jack Daniel’s Honey Glazed Chicken Strips. With so much entertainment on offer you’ll never be bored visiting here. The pub-quiz is hilarious and the nights out are some of the best you’ll have. Whether it’s for a social event or just a quick dinner, definitely visit The Lion, you’ll be back again soon, trust me.

2. The Greenfield

Most local people know The Greenfield around Rhondda Cynon Taf. It is the perfect venue for social events or to just catch up with a group of friends. If you’re looking to eat on the weekend, I would definitely recommend booking, I always have to! From melt-in-your-mouth steaks to delicate cakes, there’s something for everyone. Fun fact: Hugh Grant also dined here on a local visit. He loved it!

3. Princes

If you’re looking for a light bite, Princes is the perfect place. It’s a quaint little café that makes for the perfect break from your shopping, with friendly staff and old-fashioned, cosy decor. Although the sandwiches are gorgeous, it is most famous for its amazing pastries and cakes. If you have a sweet-tooth you will fit right in!

4. Jamil Indian Restaurant

If you’re ever in the mood for Indian, 100% this is the place to go! The staff are incredibly friendly and the restaurant itself is cosy yet stylish. Delicious and mouth-watering, the food will have you coming back for more…if you can finish it! The servings are huge and makes a great place to go with a group of friends. Order a dish each and just dig in! There’ll be plenty to share.

5. The Cwtch

As the name would suggest, The Cwtch is most known for its cosy and comfortable atmosphere as well as delicious food. This cute little café has the best homemade food and cakes. A big supporter of local markets and businesses, The Cwtch uses local, Welsh food to create its amazing dishes. Breakfast or lunch, savoury or sweet, The Cwtch has it all.

6. Subzero

A local favourite, Subzero has definitely gained a lot of attention since it opened. If you love ice-cream then you are in for a massive treat! Subzero is famous for its variety of fun and interesting flavours. From welsh cake to jaffa cake, from strawberry to Turkish delight, there is a flavour for everyone! The sundaes are worth waiting for, covered in toppings and created with care. Watch as the staff make your waffles or crepes right in front of your eyes, decorating them to your order. Kids or adults, everyone loves a trip to Subzero.

7. Trattoria

For any Italian food lovers out there, Trattoria is the place to eat. The atmosphere is relaxed and the dishes are delicious, authentic Italian food. Their website describes their restaurants as bringing its customers a taste of “little Italy” and I can confirm that this is most definitely true!

8. Hot Gossip

Another quaint, little café to try, Hot Gossip has only gained more and more popularity since it opened. With scrumptious homemade cakes, great wine and well-sized dishes, it’s the perfect place for a lunch date, dinner date or maybe even a first date!

9. Blueberry Inn

Another popular venue, you usually have to book in advance to find an available table. From coffee and cake to a full Sunday dinner, there are so many options to try. They even have a full gluten-free menu to browse. Not only does it serve delicious food, but The Blueberry Inn also offers beautiful rooms that are often described as comfortable, stylish and the result of a great night sleep. Definitely have a nose if you visit and maybe you’ll decide to stay the night.

10. Soul Spice

Slightly unique from the rest, Soul Spice is a vegan market stall situated in Pontypridd market. It sells amazing vegan herbs and spices that will greatly improve any home-cooked meal. There is also a talented cook who creates wonderful vegan dishes that range from cakes, curry boxes, wraps and salads. Give it a visit and try them all, as soon as you smell it you’ll have no choice but to!

Even though these are some of my personal favourites, there are still plenty more places to try! Definitely go on a little adventure around Rhondda Cynon Taf and discover the rest. It’s just an excuse to go out and eat really, take it!
