From indulgent, chocolate-topped waffles to traditional British scones or delicious pasta dishes, there are plenty of food places in Glasgow to get your foodie fix. We’ve put together a list of ten of the best cafés, restaurants and takeaways in the city – whether you’re looking to treat yourself, or you simply want to add a little flavour to your Instagram feed.
Serving up what are arguably the city’s best scones, The Wild Olive Tree will soon become your regular afternoon tea stop in Glasgow. Although, their selection of well-loved soups is perfect for a lunch stop, too. Remember to finish off your visit with one of their homemade cakes, and be careful – once you’ve had one, they can get a little addictive!
Practically heaven on earth for anybody with a sweet tooth, Deesserts is the place to go if you’re looking for your sugar hit. Serving up everything from hot chocolate fudge cake and cookie dough to ice cream sundaes, this restaurant is hard to resist a visit to. It’s perfect for a special after-dinner treat, but make sure you’ve got plenty of room because the dishes certainly aren’t small!
If we’re talking about Glasgow’s best food stops, the list wouldn’t be complete without a classic fish and chip shop. Adorning the High Street and lit up like a Christmas tree most of the year, Merchant Chippie is truly a testimony to the Scottish people’s love for a takeaway. No, you won’t get any special dishes or Michelin stars, but you will get a classic Scottish dish, served in a traditional takeaway box for you to enjoy on you way home. Every Scots’ dream.
Whether you’re looking for a romantic date spot, somewhere to celebrate with friends, or just an excuse to get out of the house, Bella Vita is your next stop. The Neapolitan restaurant is well-known for both its pasta and its friendly and welcoming atmosphere. You’re given a set menu to choose from, with a set price, so there are no surprises when the bill arrives, and they also offer a vegan version of the menu.
This is one of the fancier places on the list, but it has a well-deserved spot. Finnieston serve some of the country’s best seafood dishes, which are perfectly complimented by the bar’s award-winning cocktails – featuring gin from their extensive collection. They have a focus on ethically and locally sourced food so you can rest assured your dish will be top quality. If you’ve got a special occasion coming up, Finnieston Bar is worth a visit.
This might not be the first place that comes to mind when you’re looking for food, but alongside their well-established reputation as Glasgow’s best whisky bar, The Pot Still also have some of the city’s finest pies. If you fancy a nice dinner that leads into a delightfully boozy night, this is where to go. That said, it might be where you’ll find Glasgow’s best pub food, but don’t expect it to look like a restaurant!
If you’re a big fan of Sunday brunch – and who isn’t – Café Strange Brew have everything you could possibly want. Especially if you’re fond of eggs (whichever way you like them done). Due to its popularity you might have a bit of a wait before you’re served, but that will just give you longer to decide what you want from the menu! This is one of the food places in Glasgow we love!
Another place perfect for a special night out, Chaophraya is a Thai restaurant in the heart of Glasgow that gets consistently good reviews for its food. The price is slightly on the higher end, but it’s definitely not a waste. With plenty of authentic Thai dishes and a selection of wonderful cocktails, you’ll be transported (almost) to Thailand in no time.
Singl-end café will give you a tough choice between ordering something from their delicious all-day breakfast menu or giving in to temptation and getting one of their homemade cakes. Not only is the food mouth-watering, the café is renowned for a friendly atmosphere and top-notch service.
Last, but certainly not least, is Glasgow’s Café Wander. Another welcoming café with fantastic food, it’s a great place to head whether you’re looking for a late breakfast or a hearty lunch. Plus, if you’re more of a ‘coffee for breakfast’ person, their drinks come highly recommended. This is one of the best food places in Glasgow!
