It honestly seems that when the nominations for the Oscars are announced, it’s either Amy Adams or Meryl Streep swooping in and getting nominated. There’s a big difference between both actors though, despite both being incredibly talented Meryl already has three awards while Amy, despite numerous nominations, is yet to win one.
However this year at the 2019 Oscars Amy is nominated (again) for her role in Vice while veteran actor and former bunny-boiler (fatal attraction is easily one of the best films of the 80s?) Glenn Close – who currently holds the record for having the most Oscar noms but no wins – is predicted to win big.
While Oscars don’t define the measure of success, I’m sure it does feel good to be recognised for your talent at one of the most prestigious nights in the Entertainment world, however for these 10 people who should’ve received a nomination they can’t exactly relate:
London born Idris Elba may have won the award of The Sexiest Male Alive by People, however he is still yet to win an Oscar. His role as Nelson Mandela in Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, was truly snubbed and his directional debut in Yardie was completely overlooked by all major award shows in the last year. Nonetheless we’re certain the-potential-next-James-bond won’t be on this list for long!
To be honest how has Amy Adams not won an Oscar? Even her role as Giselle in the Disney blockbuster Enchanted should have got her one. Here’s hoping and preying she no longer gets criminally overlooked any time soon…
Currently tied with Deborah Kerr for having the most nominations and no wins, Glenn Close has had an legendary and successful career. From stepping into Cruelle De Vil’s fur coat back in 1996 to her most famous role as Alex Forrest in Fatal Attraction, and iconic film of the late 80s. Glenn was nominated for her role as psychotic lover Alex however she lost to Cher for her role in Moonstruck.
British actress Emily Blunt is somebody who should’ve received a nomination due to her fantastic run of films. From a self-centred fashion PA in the highly successful The Devil Wears Prada to taking on the role of Mary Poppins in the 2018 adaption. With all the success and crucial acclaim Emily has garnered she is still yet to prop an Oscar award on her shelf; here’s hoping Mary Poppins will do that for her!
Despite only getting nominated once in his four decade career for Pulp Fiction, to be perfectly honest when you’re one of the highest grossing actors of all time, do you really need an Oscar?
Sigourney Weaver had both a career defining role and genre-defining role as Ellen Ripley in the Alien franchise. The Alien franchise has been renowned for challenging gender roles, particularly in the sci-fi, horror and action genres. Despite getting nominated for best actress she lost the award back in 1986 to Marlee Matlin for her role in Children Lesser Than God.
Angela Bassett is easily one of the most talented actors out there who should’ve received a nomination. Her portrayal of Tina Turner in the biopic What’s Love Got To Do With It, received critical acclaim however she was snubbed so hard when she lost her nomination of Best Actress to Holly Hunter back in 1993
After having a long and under appreciated career Michelle Pfeiffer has most definitely been overlooked when it comes to the Oscars. Michelle can do it all; thrillers, dramas, musicals, she even slipped into a latex catsuit for her role as Catwoman in Batman Returns.
Underrated and overlooked actor Naomi Watts is another actor who should’ve received a nomination. She has been a part of many successful films throughout her three decade career. From the horror movie The Ring to disaster movie The Impossible. In the latter movie, Naomi plays a woman whose family is caught in the middle of the 2004 December tsunami. While her performance was outstanding she unfortunately lost the award to Jennifer Lawrence in Silver Linings Playbook.
Annette Bening has two Golden Globes, a BAFTA Award and was nominated for an Emmy, a Tony and FOUR oscars. We think it’s time the Kansas born actor rightfully gets one!
