5 Types of Pants To Wear Instead Of Jeans

Jeans are the best! They’re the ultimate go-to any kind of pant. Mom jeans and skinny jeans are particularly popular, and I have a feeling they always will be. They’re certainly my favorite kind of pants; you can always find me wearing mom jeans. But maybe you’re looking for something new, so here are 5 types of pants to wear instead of jeans.

1. Paper-Bag Pants

A comfy tie-front look that will make you feel like the paper bag princess you never thought you wanted to be. These pants have baggy waists that are flattering for nearly any body type, and you can rest assured that they match well with most of your tops. They’re also great for tucking your shirts in, or wearing a baggy sweater overtop. You’ll want to show off the wait though, as this is what makes these pants so interesting to look at. I personally like the striped paper-bag pants the best, but do whatever suits the majority of your tops.

2. High-Waisted Pinstripes

High-waisted stripes are the perfect blend of classy and cozy. A closer fit works for more casual outings, and a cotton or linen blend is good for a cool summer. Tuck your t-shirts in for a slimmer silhouette. You can also cuff these pants for that perfect Tumblr aesthetic, or maybe because ankles need some of that fresh spring air. I always try to go for the pinstripes with buttons, because I think they look classier and are pretty easy to put on. Opt for a closer fit or skinny striped pant if you want a classier look. Both types are quite versatile.

3. Cropped Trousers

I just love the word trousers, it make pants sound fancy, and if something sounds fancy, you know it’ll be a lot of fun to wear. This is a very classy look that will work well for both parties and interviews. The cropped trouser is a fashionable choice for the spring season. You can also opt for a flowier cullote pant if wider legs are your thing. Cropped trousers are unique in the way that they are a meld of summer pants and dress pants– things we never thought could belong to the same sentence. Try pairing these pants with a slim top and oversized blazer to craft an elegant but relaxed silhouette.

4. Corduroys

Argue if you want, but cords are in style. Maybe you thought of the classic kids’ show, “Corduroy Bear.” I loved that show, and I loved cords. Just like the little old teddy bear, they’re dependable and good for chillier months like fall. If you think cords are boring, please reconsider. You can try to elevate your corduroys by juxtaposing their classic fit with more contemporary looks like crop tops, 1980’s neon pieces, and denim jackets to create something visually interesting. It’s the thrift store aesthetic, and you can elevate it so many ways to create your own unique look.

5. Jumpsuits

Okay, I cheated with this one! Technically jumpsuits are not pants, but they’re a great option if you’re going for a more indie, playful look. They’re easy to just throw on over whatever top you plan to wear, and you’re never going to find a cuter outfit for the spring. I like button straps on my jumpsuits, as these are easy to take on and off and have a timeless rustic look that I adore. A boxier, looser fit tends to be more trendy in 2019, but you can always opt for a slimmer version if you prefer that silhouette.
