Drivers in LA is something anyone from Los Angeles is accustomed to. LA is famous for its insane amount of traffic. If you want to get around in LA, then chances are you have had to drive on its roads. This also means that you’ve probably come across some of LA’s most notorious motorists. Here are 10 types of drivers in LA!
Patience is a virtue unless you are running late and stuck driving behind a slow driver. I’m all for being a careful driver, but driving under the speed limit in the middle of the morning rush when people are trying to get to work. Uh uh, speed it up honey! I have places to be and people to see!
On the other end of the spectrum, you have a motorist that thinks he is on a race track. Constantly weaving in and out of traffic and revving their engine as they speed of into the distance, these motorists can be dangerous. Be weary and stay alert. Blink and you’ll miss them!
This is Los Angeles’ signature driver. When you think of LA roads, you probably picture millions of cars backed up on the freeway. This is the perfect breeding ground for a road rage driver. They don’t have time for the traffic or for your amateur mistakes. They will probably be gesturing and yelling at you through the window for whatever you happened to do wrong. Goodness be with you if you are unfortunate enough to face their wrath!
Another danger to motorists on the road is the texter. You can see them through your rear view mirror looking down at their phones. You’ll probably have to honk at them to get going when the light turns green as they are probably too busy sending a text or posting something on social media.
You could hear the music blasting from their car at any time of day. Chances are they are singing along to the music and even dancing in their seat. When you are stuck in traffic, it could actually be pretty entertaining to watch these guys rockin’ out in their car. Turn up your music and join these party animals in their celebration! Knowing LA traffic, you’re probably going to be stuck for a while, so you might as well keep yourself entertained.
Because this is LA, there is always somebody learning to drive. This means that you are bound to run into your fair share of student drivers. Be patient with them. They’re probably all nervous they might die if they make a wrong move. Honking will probably make them more nervous so be patient or move to the next lane.
I don’t understand the need to drive in close proximity to another vehicle. I have no idea how that is going to make the other car move any faster. Is it an intimidation tactic or just plain annoying? Just don’t retaliate. You’ll probably end up in a vicious circle and disturb other drivers on the road.
Since you can’t drive and hold a phone at the same time, many LA drivers have adapted to this by using a hands-free device such as a Bluetooth or the speaker application on their phones. The thing is that people tend to project their voice, thinking the other person can’t hear them. This results on you finding out the details of Aunt Margie’s divorce at 8AM in the morning. But that’s none of our business.
Getting stuck behind one of these guys can be a nightmare. For one, they block your view. Second, they’re massive so driving too close will probably put you in a blind spot. Lastly, they tend to drive slow. Not to mention, the drivers like to suddenly pull over to the side of the road without warning leaving you vulnerable to missing the green light or leaving you in the middle of an intersection. My advice, move to another lane.
These guys are the worst! No offense to anyone who might drive a motorcycle, but I mean come on! Weaving in between traffic, not driving in a lane, and the fact that you zoom by at a high speed, gives every driver anxiety. Motorcyclists also barely have any gear protecting them, so a collision could be fatal. It’s just nerve wrecking! They are definitely one of the worst drivers in LA.
