In the spirit of Halloween, I’m giving you a list of ten TRUE scary stories that are sure to keep you up at night. Some of these scare stories can’t be corroborated with actual evidence and others can. It’s up to you to make up your mind concerning the former. With that in mind, let’s jump right into it.
If you don’t already know, the deep web is said to be the entirety of the internet. The part of the internet that can be accessed through common search engines like google is only a small fraction of the internet’s entirety. It’s often compared to the ocean. Only a small part of the ocean has been discovered. Much of it, especially the deeper regions, have not been inspected. Also worth noting, the deep web is home to nefarious activity. It’s not typically associated with a wealth of knowledge or helpful resources for law abiding citizens. The deep web is a place where child pornography is rampant, illegal gun sales are rife, and snuff videos are commonplace. A lot of mythology surrounds this part of the internet, and some of what was previously considered mythology has unfortunately been revealed to be true. The following true scary stories are the grim realities of true evil.
This story is from a reddit user who claims he met a guy on a forum who sleeps with men for the sole purpose of giving them the AIDS virus. His motives are unclear, which makes the act all the more scary. The closest thing we get to a motive is that it brings a smile to his face. What he does is cut the tips off of his condoms to deceive his partners into believing they’re having safe sex. He then “stays in touch” with his victims to see how they deal with their inevitable diagnosis. He says he’s only failed once.
This story is from a person who claims to have come across a cult recruiting website. Like most people, he decided access the deep web out of morbid curiosity and boredom. He didn’t initially expect to see much, and then his innocence is crushed at the sight of a man cutting up a human body as though it’s cow meat followed by abstruse symbols. He alleges that the man start cutting the legs at the buttocks and then proceeded to decapitate the person. Such a heavy price to pay for morbid curiosity.
A young hacker says that her nefarious deeds were turned back on her while visiting the deep web. She claims that her computer was hacked while she was on the deep web; at first, she thought nothing of the strange messages she was receiving until a mass amount of naked pictures were sent to her phone. Understandably, she abstained from using any and all electronic devices afterwards.
In another less scary story, a reddit user alleges that she received a message on her personal twitter account after accessing the deep web. The reddit user avidly shopped on the deep web–namely on silk road– and was naive enough to not sufficiently protect her identity. Of course that backfired on her, and afterwards she received threatening messages on twitter naming her school and her parents. After blocking the anonymous twitter user though, the whole thing brushed over.
The second half of this lists will be over disturbing 4chan posts. 4chan is an imageboard site in which anyone can post a story or prompt a discussion without any registration. New York Times described it as the “darkest corner of the web.” 4chan can be the abhorrent underbelly of humanity. It can also be quite mundane in its topics of discussion. But though the former is more rare, some instances of it will leave your awake for nights on end. The following posts are TRUE scary stories and confessions. Some of these stories have been confirmed to be true. So I want to state that despite not knowing the families, my sincerest condolences go out to them. Some of these stories are less for the sake of sending a chill down the spine of the reader and more for exposing the aforementioned dark underbelly of humanity.
On November 4th, 2014 4chan user posted a few pics of a pale body of a woman, stating that “turns out it’s way harder to choke someone than it looks in the movies.” A few users commented facetiously, believing that the body wasn’t real or that the person in the photo was acting. Sadly, they weren’t. And a young boy found his mother’s body later that day. The victim was Amber Lynn Coplin.
This next post narrates a horror filled camping trip. The 4chan poster describes being visited by a strange creature during a camping trip. He narrates that well sleeping a glob of warm, viscous flood dropped onto his face. His surroundings were almost pitch black, but he could faintly see the silhouette of something that didn’t look like an animal. Although, it didn’t quite look like a human. He told the authorities afterwards, and they believed that it was most likely an animal. He seems to think otherwise though.
An anonymous 4chan user posted a question onto the site asking other users to guess as to what he keeps in his freezer. Like on the previous post, the answers were flippant at first until one user guessed a body. The user who posed the question congratulated the user for his correct answer. He then uploaded various pics of human limbs onto the site. The authorities have failed to discover his identity, meaning that somewhere he’s likely scheming to kill his next unsuspecting victim.
This post isn’t particularly scary, but it is shocking. A 4chan user got on the site to inform other users that he had found a grenade and was attempting to set it off. The user went as far as to send pics of the grenade in the microwave and even sent a photo of his car tire running over it. After that final pic, the user hasn’t been heard from since, leading many to conclude the worst.
In this disturbing post, a man claims to have killed several women “for pleasure” and challenges other users to guess their identity. Many of the users weren’t convinced until he began uploading images of beaten, decomposing bodies. The users contacted the authorities, and one image was linked to a seventeen-year-old murder victim named Shauna Maynard. Below is a senior photo of her.
This last post began innocently enough it would seem with a user uploading a photo of his toe and cryptically asking what he should do. Other users quickly responded, and one user suggested cutting the toe off. The next photo the original poster uploaded was of a band tied tightly around his toe. Other user continued with their joking remarks until an image of a severed toe was uploaded. Screenshots of the post are below.
