10 Tricks To Looking Makeup Free This Summer

Summer is fast approaching with each and every day getting a little bit brighter, a little bit longer, and a little bit warmer. I don’t know about you, but in my opinion there is really no better feeling in the summer then going makeup free with a perfect sun kissed glow. However, sometimes mother nature (and raging hormones) don’t always allow us women to feel our best 100% makeup free, and that’s TOTALLY OK! Some people do say makeup is a girl’s best friend, and without sounding like a superficial bitch, I kind of agree. We all have those days where we don’t feel our ‘prettiest’, the days when we wake up with a zit on our chin or maybe got a little too sunburnt and that’s when makeup comes in. Of course, as the beautiful, strong, independent women that we are, we don’t NEED makeup to be fabulous, but hey, if it can add a little bit of confidence to our daily routines then why not, right?

These are the top 10 tips and tricks that I swear by to help look makeup free all summer long, without actually being makeup free. Yea, you read that right.

1. Brows

Okay, I am a huge fan of the bold brow and I pray each and every day that it does not ever go out of style, ever again. Nothing makes a face look more put together, in my opinion, then a clean, full brow. Grab yourself a brow kit, fill those beautiful brows in literally 46 seconds (yes, I timed it) and be on your way to a makeup free summer day.

2. Lashes

Lashes, Lashes, Lashes, what can I say about lashes other than, holy crap I feel like the most beautiful woman in the world when my lashes are on point. We live in a blessed world where lash extensions are easily accessible and well worth it during the summer months. What’s better then dipping in a pool and coming out flawless?

3. Concealer

I recently got onto the concealer band wagon and I don’t think I’ll ever, in my life, jump off. It’s a perfect way to get a bit more coverage then powders but still gives the ‘makeup free’ look with the ability to cover up sunburns or dark circles without having to throw on a thick layer of foundation.

4. Highlighter

When I see a girl with a swipe of highlighter on her cheek bones all I want to scream is, “YES QUEEN!” Highlighter is a fun product because you can keep it subtle with beiges, golds, and skin tones allowing you to enhance your natural beautiful glow, or you can dip into pinks, purples, greens, even rainbow highlighters and add a little bit of colour where you might be lacking by going makeup free. Trust me, when the sun catches that perfect magenta on your brow bone, you’ll make people believe unicorns are jumping from the skies.

5. Lip stain

I love lip stain, not to be confused with lip gloss, or lip stick, we’re talking about lip STAIN. Other than lash extensions, which are fused to your face, lip stain might be the best actual product to take with you to a pool party or beach day. The whole idea is that it literally stains your lip, ok maybe not stains your lip but the colour swipes on like a marker and will appear like a natural colour, rather than how a lipstick looks like a layer of paint over your lip. Stains actually infuses into the skin, appearing more natural. Since natural is what we’re going for, its perfect for the summer, right?

6. Blush Paint

Ive never been a fan of blush but I recently discovered blush paint and I kind of fell in love. Blush paint is neat because rather than a traditional blush that swipes on in a powder or cream form, the paint is completely controllable by dabbing the pigment on with your fingers. Not to mention, the paint acts sort of the same way lip stain does. By infusing into your skin, the paint enhances your personal pigmentation, resulting in a more natural look then a layer of powdered blush that’s typically applied with a brush.

7. Powder

Powder has always been near and dear to my heart, no, not the sparkly bronzing powder, there once was a time and place for that but that ship has sailed my friends. I’m talking about a nice neutral, matte powder that can be applied to the face to smooth out any uneven tones. The nice part about this powder is that you can take it with you in your purse or beach bag and apply it anywhere, without anyone noticing you added anything at all. It’s just a nice trick to keeping the skin looking fresh and even.

8. Contour

Yes, contouring, yes! Throw a little contour onto the cheek bones and be on your way, literally, that’s all it takes. I love this trick because it adds the perfect amount of angles and shadows to the face while looking incredibly natural. Just please promise me you’ll blend properly!

9. Blotting Papers

These little bad boys are my absolute best friend, not only in the summer, but I’d say all year round. Have a pack of these babies with you to help combat oily skin and keep your skin looking fresh all day long.

10. Fake Tan

Having a tan actually helps me, personally, feel a bit more confident. I have no idea why, but when I have a bit of colour on my skin, I actually feel like I don’t need any makeup at all. However, protecting your skin is very important and since tanning day in and day out is likely not the best way to healthy skin, I like to use fake tanning products. There are a lot of great, more natural based products out there that actually bring out your bodies own melanin so you can protect your precious skin and look sun kissed at the same time!
