Portland State University is filled with people from all over the world. It’s basically a melting pot, boiling over with unique individuals and their personal style. I notice so many interesting people wearing super fresh fashion everyday, and am here to share some of the trendiest looks that have recently walked the streets of downtown Portland. Keep reading for the latest trends spotted at Portland State University!
It seems as though 2016 is the year of overalls! This throwback style isn’t just for little kids anymore, and is an extremely versatile piece. Wear it over a crop top or a bodysuit, or layer a sweater underneath for instant fall vibes. As for shoes, you could go with just about anything: sneakers, boots, booties – you name it!
I know denim isn’t a new trend, but the way PSU students have styled it is anything but dated. Whether it’s denim on denim, denim bags and accessories, or even the comeback of jean skirts: denim is big, especially this time of year. If you’re looking for a denim jacket that is unique and cool, you could give colored denim a shot, like pictured below. And to amp up any denim look, try adding pins and patches for a cool, vintage feel.
Another style that is completely timeless is the classic flannel. Portland State’s campus is flooded with flannels, being paired with graphic tees, worn tied around the waist, and even, when oversized, worn as a dress. The possibilities are endless.
This luxe, elegant fabric can be seen in a variety of forms: dresses, pants, skirts, etc. Velvet gives off a glamorous yet grungy feel, depending on how you style it. I really loved this Portland local’s take on the trend, wearing a gorgeous mid-length, royal blue dress. The crushed velvet fabric is so delicate and beautiful, especially when paired with dainty jewelry.
A completely new trend that has stolen my heart as of lately is the simple-dress-over-tee-shirt look. It’s extremely chic and so easy to wear, not to mention it reminds me of the 90’s. Wear any basic dress over a plain, or graphic, tee, or even over a simple blouse as worn by this Portland fashionista. Any length dress will do, from mini to maxi! Wear with sneakers for a more sporty look, or dress it up with heeled booties or strappy stilettos.
So if you ever find yourself in Portland searching for some serious style inspo, just step outside and revel in the fashion filled streets of PSU!
