What Kind of Traveler Are You Based on Your Zodiac Sign

Browsing through Instagram, it can be easy to get caught up in all the #travelinspo. Watching someone climb Mt. Kilimanjaro might give you itchy feet, but would you ever actually go for it? Or are you more of an all-inclusive resort kind of person? Fortunately, your star sign can give you a little insight into what you’d actually enjoy. Find out what kind of traveler you are based on your zodiac sign.

1. Aries: Mar 21 – Apr 20

Adventure travel is the perfect niche for you, Aries. Whether your adventurous spirit manifests itself through mountain biking, zip-lining, or bungee jumping, you’re always ready for a challenge. As a fire sign, you burn brightly and your courage inspires your travel companions to push their own boundaries, too. But remember that not everyone is as much of a risk-taker as you. In your excitement to get out there and leap into the unknown, try to have patience with your friends and family if they are hesitant to join you in sky-diving.

2. Taurus: Apr 21 – May 21

Slow and steady wins the race. Long-term outdoor travel is great for you, Taurus, because you’ve got patience and endurance in spades. Camping, hiking, mountaineering, you name it. You’re an earth sign, so getting in touch with nature is, well, second nature to you. The daily routine of a long hiking trip is also something you can groove with. But remember that sometimes Mother Nature has plans of her own, so learn to be flexible around weather, trail closures, and other obstacles you might run into.

3. Gemini: May 22 – Jun 21

Ah, the Twins. Gemini, your natural duality means that you’re at once a homebody and an adventurer. The best way for you to travel is through homestays like Airbnb or Workaway. Stay in a fascinating new place but still have the comforts of living at home. As an air sign, you can be indecisive, but this way you literally don’t have to choose. Explore the hills of Sicily and then come home to fresh limoncello and hand-made pasta. It’s the best of both worlds! It’s also a good way to discover other cultures from the locals themselves. Mercury rules you, so you’re great at making connections, even with people from vastly different walks of life. Take advantage of that and you’ll make friends all over the world.

4. Cancer: Jun 21 – Jul 22

A Zen retreat is the perfect way for Cancers to let go of some stress and feel out their emotions. Whether it’s a Yoga retreat in Costa Rica or a silent Ashram in India, you will thrive on a trip that is all about connecting with yourself. You’re ruled by the Moon, Cancer, so emotions ebb and flow in you like the tide. Sometimes people tell you that’s a bad thing. But really meditating on those feelings will help you understand and accept yourself. Just don’t get so caught up in your own head that you forget to appreciate the beautiful place you’re in.

5. Leo: Jul 23 – Aug 21

Leo, you lovable party animal. City trips are the way to go, especially cities that have a killer night life. The Sun rules you, but when it goes down, you’re still ready for fun and adventure. You’re a fire sign, so that enthusiasm is only natural. In a big city, you’ll have the opportunity to explore some of the best a culture has to offer: food, wine, shopping, partying. You might not know where all of those must-see spots are, though. So if friends or family are showing you around, let them take the wheel for a little while.

6. Virgo: Aug 22 – Sep 23

If you’re going on a trip next spring, you probably started planning it last year, right, Virgo? There’s nothing wrong with a detailed, meticulous itinerary. But part of travel is about pushing your boundaries. Challenge yourself by traveling with a tour company, like Contiki or EF College Break.  As an earth sign, the structured schedules of these kinds of trips appeal to your desire for order and groundedness. But it also allows you to relax a little bit; you don’t have to do any of the planning. It is a vacation, after all.

7. Libra: Sep 24 – Oct 23

Libra, your idealistic heart wants a better, greener world. You can help build that world through eco travel. It might take you a while to weigh all the pros and cons when deciding where to go for vacation, a side effect of being an air sign. It’s important that your decisions result in as much balance and harmony as possible. By staying at an eco resort or going on a tour with an eco conscious company, you know that the conservation scales tip in your favor. Fortunately, many companies are getting on board with this trend, so there’s plenty to choose from and you won’t have to sacrifice your ideal of a romantic getaway, either. Although a wide range of options might not be the best thing for a Libra…

8. Scorpio: Oct 24 – Nov 22

Still waters run deep and you’re no exception, Scorpio. People often tell you to lighten up, mistaking your intensity for seriousness. You manifest that intensity in your travels by going off the beaten path and searching for meaning. Steer clear of the resort strip in Cancun in favor of hidden cenotes; meander through a museum and reflect on the history and significance of the exhibits; unplug and unwind. Every moment of your trip doesn’t have to be profound, though. Spice things up with a cutie at the hostel; have a mojito before noon; snap some selfies. Just have fun!

9. Sagittarius: Nov 23 – Dec 22

The Archer is the perfect backpacker. You love broadening your horizons and the freedom of traveling where and when you want is right up your alley, Sagittarius. As a fire sign, you’re optimistic and good-humored, which is important when you’re on the road for months at a time. So lace up your boots and follow your heart’s roadmap. Embrace your wanderlust as you hop between cities, countries, and continents. Just don’t forget to come home every once in a while.

10. Capricorn: Dec 23 – Jan 20

Capricorn, of all the signs you are the most likely to be traveling for work or school. You’re an earth sign, so it’s in your nature to be practical, especially when it comes to your spending. Traveling for work or school gives you the permission you need to justify the time and expense that you wouldn’t normally spend on yourself. Double points if the company is paying or you earned a scholarship. But remember that all work and no play will make you a grumpy Goat. So when your job sends you to Atlanta for a conference, take some time out of the weekend to hunt down the best brunch spot in town.

11. Aquarius: Jan 21 – Feb 19

Water Bearer, you are the humanitarian sign so voluntourism is the way to go. You feel best when you put your vacation time to good use helping others. Whether you’re helping build a school in rural Mexico, working on a farm with WWOOF, or giving out vaccinations in a Peruvian clinic, you’ll be seeing the world and bettering it at the same time. Sometimes people give you grief for being aloof or detached, Aquarius, because of your air sign tendency to over-analyze and rationalize your feelings. But your heart’s always in the right place and your friendly nature wins out.

12. Pisces: Feb 20 – Mar 20

Pisces, solo travel is perfect for you. Solo travel will give you plenty of time for introspection and self-discovery but also challenge you to take charge and chart your own course. It also works well with your tendency toward introversion. Water signs are naturally fluid, so let your travels take you wherever you fancy; no need to check in with a travel companion first. Don’t forget to seek out some human interaction every now and then, though. Hostels are a great place to meet fellow solo travelers and share a beer or cocktail.
