Travel Hacks that Everyone Should Know

Traveling can be very exhausting and stressful for some, so here are some tips for you to use to make your life a little bit easier. We will be sharing travel hacks that can be used for multiple ways of travel: bus, train, plane, etc.

1. Look at alternative travel

Flying doesn’t have to be your only option when traveling. There are other, cheaper alternatives available to you as well, like the train, bus, or driving. If it is warm enough and you can afford it, driving is a very cool and overlooked option. If you are traveling within the US, renting a car and driving can be a pretty wonderful experience. You can just pop on a few good tunes or listen to a few good podcasts to help entertain you until you get to your final destination.

2. Keep your luggage at a minimum

You don’t want to be that person that has bags on top of bags wherever you go. Do yourself a huge solid and learn how to pack light. It will make your traveling so much easier. To avoid overpacking, pack only what you will only for sure need or will wear. Make a list of all the things you need to pack, including clothes and toiletries. Try to plan and pack for a minimal and modest wardrobe selection.

3. Try packing just one carry-on if your trip will be short

If your trip is going to be less than two weeks, then it’s best to travel with just one carry-on, especially if you are traveling alone. The trick to this tip is to wear your heaviest clothes while traveling. For example, wear your sneakers instead of packing them and wearing some sandals or whatever lighter shoe you plan on wearing. Your sneakers would be eating up a lot of room that you could use for other more important things.

4. Take pictures of your luggage if you are traveling on a plane

Airplanes are known for losing people’s checked bags. Just in case it does happen, make sure to take pictures of your luggage. You can send the airport these pictures so they can look out for your luggage and it will probably increase the chances of your luggage being found.

5. Download your travel app beforehand

No matter how you are traveling, it is best to download the app for whoever you are traveling with. Depending on your method of travel, it can show your itinerary. This can also simplify your trip because you will have your tickets available on the app.

6. Keep your jewelry at a minimum

This tip is especially important for those who are traveling on the airplane. If you are a first-time flyer, then you may be confused about why this tip is important. Before you go on the plane, you have to remove your jewelry and shoes. You do not want to be that person that has to take off a lot and hold up the TSA line. It will be a hassle for everyone, including yourself.

7. Pack snacks for your trip

If you are able to pack snacks, then do it. No question.  Future you will definitely thank you. This travel hack can really cut down on your money spending, especially if you have a long commute ahead of you.

8. Write your list of everything you are packing

Looking at a physical list of all the things you are packing does two things. It ensures that you are packing everything you need. As you look down the list, you make think of some things that you need. It can also make you 2nd guess certain items that you will NEED for the trip. Do you really need to pack two pairs of sandals? No, you don’t. Pack one neutral pair and move on to the next thing.

9. Check the weather ahead of  time

This is a no-brainer for some, but you can forget so this is just a little reminder to not forget the small stuff. The last thing you want to do is not pack a warm jacket or a raincoat, because you did not take note of the forecast during your traveling days.

10. Spend below your budget

You should definitely never travel if you do not have the funds to do so. Spending below budget is the key to having a stress-free time while traveling. You can also use the leftover funds to take care of some financial responsibilities when you get home.

11. Pack your own power bank for your phone

Generally, when you travel, there is always an outlet for you to charge your phone, but what is a better place to charge your phone besides your own purse or bag. Save yourself the anxiety of keeping a charged phone by traveling with a power bank on hand. Having a reliable phone is a very important safety measure while traveling, so do yourself a favor and make sure that you have one.

12. Roll your clothes instead of folding

Many people are aware of this travel hack already, but in case you aren’t, here ya go. Rolling your clothes instead of folding gives you a lot more free space to pack other items. Some thicker clothing items will need to be folded, but things like t-shirts, underwear, and other light clothing materials can be rolled to give you more room in your luggage.

13. Road Trip- take your time, do not rush

Driving can be a fun and inexpensive way to travel. It can be tiring to some, especially if you have been driving for a while, but it is important to get there in one piece. Take your time, turn up your tunes, grab some snacks, and just drive. You will get there.

14. Road Trip- pack more snacks than you think you’ll need

Pack way more snacks than you will think that you need. This can cut down on your stops, which can make your trip go through so much smoother and faster.
