When you’re shoe shopping, you don’t often think about what’s exactly in style for the year, but what type of styles you actually like (which is completely fair). And when you find your true love in footwear, you’re not going to always care about whether they’re “actually in style”, right?
But there’s no bigger of a bummer than buying a pair of shoes and wearing them suck in the heat during the summer because you didn’t really think it over realistically (we understand, shoes are like cute, money sucking sirens).
So if you’re struggling on what type of style to get, what you’d wear it with and, most importantly, how it’d fair during the summer heat, we’ve got you covered. Here’s a few shoe styles to wear this summer.
Straps, and a lot of them, are a big trend coming into summer. With the ankle height and summery colours, this style is definitely one of our favourites: plus, it’s all breathe when the only thing covering your feet are thin straps — plus, this style goes with practically everything. The one thing to watch out for is that this type of style is often made in suede, which can stain from dirt and other things from summery activities. Definitely invest in a suede wash, or a stain correcting eraser if you decide to go all out in the grass one day. You’ll thank yourself.

With the new blast of bo-ho trends, woven detailing is coming in to trend and most likely staying. With the ability to put this type of detailing on literally any type of shoe style, and the breathability for warm weather, this trend is definitely one you should hit up this summer. Plus, you can never have too many flats… no matter what others tell you. Go for more neutral colours like black or brown in this style for a good compliment to a colourful outfit.

Let’s be honest, all of us have wanted to be a Spice Girl at some point in our lives (or we just never stopped). Extra-large platforms with funky colours and looks? Definitely something Baby Spice would wear. Plus, this style looks great with jeans and basically any type of dress so… live out your dreams, babe. And maybe be a little taller.

With the comfortability and laid-back type of style that’s over taking the runways at the moment, it’s no surprise that sports sandals have become a huge trend. Kind of melding in with the strappy sandals style talked about above, this trend is the more laid-back, but still looks super cute version of that. Plus, being able to walk or bike around during the summer without your feet hurting? Major goals.

No, we’re not talking about the girl group in Mean Girls (but Regina George would definitely wear this trend). A huge style that blew up this year and looks like to follow into summer is the clear, jelly or vinyl type of plastic detailing on shoes. The downside to this half vintage, half futuristic style is that it’s not breathable at all, which could cause some sweaty problems during the summer. That didn’t stop basically every shoe designer from featuring it, though, and it shouldn’t stop you. Wear this style when you go out for a nice dinner or drinks!
