10 Top Coffee Shops To Visit In Minneapolis

Being a student at the University of Minnesota, coffee is one of the essential things that helps me get through each and every day. Like most college students my bloodstream is usually somewhere between 50%-70% caffeine on any given day. Starting with the coffee shops close to campus and then spreading out across the city, here are 10 of the top coffee shops in Minneapolis!

1. Purple Onion Cafe

Purple Onion usually has lots of kids from the University of Minnesota studying there, seeing as it’s right off campus. The atmosphere is very friendly and they have a very delicious and unique menu. My personal favorites being the zucchini cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and the créme brûlée late!

2. Bordertown Coffee

Bordertown is a hip and convenient frat house turned coffee shop. It is also located near the University campus so it is one of my go-to study spaces. The cafe serves ethically-sourced coffee and baked goods.

3. Seward Co-Op Creamery Café

Seward Café is a co-op, restaurant, bar, and coffee shop all in one. How could anyone want anything more? There’s tons of natural light, it’s locally sourced and the coffee is to die for!

4. Spyhouse Coffee

There are four different Spyhouse Coffee shops in the Minneapolis area and one more in St. Paul! Each is distinctly different but still has the classic and delicious cookie Spyhouse is known for.

5. Maeve’s Cafe

Maeve’s Cafe is an adorable, quaint little cafe with checkered floors and olive green walls. It is known for its breakfast dishes and coffee. While I wouldn’t recommend studying there, this is one of the top coffee shops to grab some breakfast!

6. Peace Coffee

Peace Coffee is a Minnesota based organization that sells organic fair trade coffee. It is brightly colored and of course aesthetically pleasing, which is all anyone needs from a coffee shop, right? You can buy one of their delicious lattes, their adorable merch, or some of their coffee grounds to make it at home!

7. Bob’s Java Hut

This cafe describes itself as a “colorful retro-diner-meets-biker-bar space”. The walls are blue and red and covered with signs and pictures. In the summer they can open a garage door connected to the shop and almost the entire thing is open air!

8. Cafe Astoria

Cafe Astoria is the perfect place to get that photo shoot with your latte that you know your Instagram has been needing! This place has the most unique drinks ever.

9. Caffetto

This coffee shop has a grungy and chill vibe while serving coffee, tea and casual food. It is open late for your last minute deadlines, and they feature rotating exhibits of local artists, so you are always surrounded by new and upcoming artwork!

10. Dogwood Coffee

Dogwood Coffee Co. is based in Minnesota! They have all the merch you could ever want, and all the coffee you could ever drink! It has a bright and open atmosphere with excellent quality coffee.
