Top Cities To Get Lucky In This Saint Patrick’s Day

Saint Patrick’s Day observes the passing of St. Patrick, the primary patron saint of Ireland. It’s also an observance of Ireland itself, which means a lot of parades, beer, and the color green. The bigger metropolitans give their own flare of the emerald celebration the best way they know-how. These are the top Cities To Get Lucky In This Saint Patrick’s Day, most inspired by Tripsavvy.

Dublin, Ireland

This first city goes without saying, considering it is one of the biggest in the country of Ireland. In fact, they don’t just celebrate one day for Saint Patrick’s Day, they celebrate five. Since it is such a big festive, my suggestion for getting lucky in Dublin is to plan your trip ahead. And, since lodging in Ireland is a little on the pricier side, on top of the plane tickets, I’d also recommend sharing this experience with a small group of friends. Aside from the big festival from March 13-17, one could tour the Guinness Brewery or Jamieson Distillery. if that seems like a lot stop by one of the pubs, such as The Stags Head, The Cobblestone, or O’Donoghues Bar and order a Guinness from where it originated.

Chicago, Illinois

Believe it or not, the parties on Saint Patrick’s Day in this city aren’t as wild as they are lively. Such events include a variety of St. Patrick’s Day Booze Cruises, the Chicago Shamrock crawl in Wrigleyville, and the St. Paddy’s Day River Crawl. If you’re just looking to drink, check out the Kerryman Irish Bar and Restaurant. “Its Irish-born owners and executive chef updated a number of favorite Irish dishes such as a corned beef hash Reuben; black Angus ribeye & chips; and Galway seafood chowder with root vegetables, potatoes, and fresh herbs in roasted fish stock and heavy cream. For those who prefer whiskey bars, Lady Gregory’s doesn’t disappoint. Named after the famed Irish author, this cocktail lounge pays homage to its Irish heritage in a subdued fashion. The real draw is the impressive Irish whiskey selection, which is said to be the largest in the Midwest. LG’s bar staff traveled all over the globe to assemble the more than 300-plus, international whiskey list, but the Irish choices are most prominent.”

New York City, New York

At this point, we’re pretty aware of the culture of NYC. There’s a reason why it’s nicknamed the “city that never sleeps”. And, Saint Patrick’s Day is no different. Their annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade begins at 11 am on March 17th, running from 44th Street up to 5th Avenue (past St. Patrick’s Cathedral) to 79th Street. A full-day affair, the revelry typically continues until late afternoon. There is a strict no float rule. Instead, spectators are treated to a lineup of marching bands, bagpipers, Irish dancers, and more.” Pubs such as Paddy Reilly’s Music Bar in Kip’s Bay, Doc Watson’s on the Upper East Side, The Landmark Tavern in Hell’s Kitchen, 11th Street Bar in East Village, Frances Tavern in the Financial District, and Gramercy Ale House in Gramercy give the classic Irish customs as if you’ve just stepped foot into the authentic part of the world. If you really want to learn more about its history, swing by the Lower East Side’s Tenement Museum, “which recounts the experience of a typical 19th-century Irish immigrant family,” or the East Village’s Merchant House Museum,” set within a preserved 19th-century home that was once the home to Irish immigration. A highlight is a special St. Patrick’s Day ghost tour where you just might meet the Irish servants who still haunt the place.”

Seattle, Washington

Along with the celebration located in Westlake, Saint Patrick’s Day Dash as well as the St. Paddy’s Day Run in Tacoma. Or, stop by the Seattle Center for the Irish Festival to add a bit of cultural learning into the mix. Expect visual arts, performances, a marketplace, genealogy workshops and more. And, as a local, many Irish themed bars can go with whatever night you want to have this St. Patrick’s Day. Pubs such as Conor Byrne Pub, The Celtic Swell, Fado Irish Pub, Kells Irish Restaurant & Pub, and Owl ‘n Thistle Irish Pub & Restaurant give their own feelings of this Celtic holiday that can be enjoyed then as well as regularly. Most are known to host their annual quiz nights and serve the best Irish grub including shepherd’s pie, bangers and mash, and veggie pasties. And let’s not forget the many beers on tap during their regular happy hours while you enjoy live music. Also, check out T.S. McHugh’s and Paddy Coyne’s that keep the tradition in Irish pubs alive as well.

Boston, Massachusetts

Check out the annual parade in “Southie” with bagpipers, marching bands and other Irish societies. Or, if you’re one to go untraditional, you could even snag a ticket to see the Celtic band the Dropkick Murphy’s annual concert series! And yes, it really is annual, considering this is their hometown. Otherwise, swing by pubs such as The Black Rose (for their “pint of Guinness as an appetizer, traditional eatery and live music), Emmets Irish Pub and Restaurant (for their draft ales and Guinness pies), and The Burren (though it’s not technically in the city, you won’t see a full Irish breakfast, Guinness beef stew, and Shamrock Cake in a pub like this one).

Savannah, Georgia

Along with their annual Saint Patrick’s Day parade (which is considered one of the biggest in the world), there are a variety of events that can be enjoyed on and around the day of green and four-leaf clovers. This includes the annual festival, where one can go all out with their selection of pubs, restaurants, and beer lined up on the same streets, and the Greening of the Fountain at Forsyth Park. If you’re one to celebrate for the booze, they even have their own bar crawl! Just grab your friends and a scorecard and enjoy what the city has to offer.
