We’ve all been beginners at makeup at some point. Personally, I didn’t start wearing makeup until after I was already in college! So definitely don’t feel bad about starting to wear makeup at an older age than other people.
With that being said, if you’re here to learn a bit more on makeup and what are some of the things you shouldn’t do, then you’ve come to the right place!
Washing your face first is essential when it comes to applying makeup. Your face is your blank canvas; you can do whatever the hell you want to it. It’s also the thing that many people will look at when you wake up in the morning. This is why you’ve got to take care of it!
This is partially why it’s so important to wash your face before makeup. The more important reason would be that if you don’t there’s a big possibility that your foundation and makeup in general may not look as great than if you had a clean face.
Another reason would be that it’s just gross when you just put makeup on top of the dirt and grime your face accumulated throughout the day. So it’s better not just for your makeup, but for your face to wash it before putting on foundation and any other makeup you want to put on.
This is one of the most crucial steps you have to take when applying makeup! There have been people that have broken out in hives from not testing makeup first. So do remember this when you’re a beginner and you’ve never tried makeup before.
Any and every foundation bottle, eyeshadow palette, blush, or any other makeup product that aren’t makeup brushes will have the ingredients listed on them. I suggest that, as a new makeup user, you look at those ingredients and take note of the ingredients that you’re allergic to. You can do this, or if you don’t know what kind of ingredients that you’re allergic to, then test in your arm first.
This is when you can monitor the reaction you get, if any.
With the pandemic happening, no store is leaving testers out for safety reasons, so it’s not exactly possible right now. In one article by allure.com, makeup stores like Detox Market and Sephora are taking new measures to help people test makeup safely. One of the ways that Detox Market had started to employ is putting the product on a palette, and handing it to the customer for them to try out themselves, not allowing them to touch the actual tester.
It’s possible that a store near you is employing some kind of safe way to try makeup out!
This step is pretty important, but definitely not as important as the last one.
Foundation is usually liquid, sometimes powder, that you put onto your face to cover up acne, or facial flaws. For many people, this makeup product is the first thing you put on after primer. Sometimes people will do eyeshadow first and then foundation, but you can pretty much do either one first.
Back to foundation, when trying to find a color, try to color match the foundation to your skin as closely as possible. Don’t grab a foundation tube that you think is the color that your skin is. You’re in for a bad time if you do this. You’ll end up looking one of three ways: like a ghost, orange, or like you have a tan on your face only. Any one of these are not great.
Try to ask a friend or bring a handheld mirror with you when trying to find the correct color for your skin.
This is another step in makeup application that you should definitely take into consideration.
When you’re a beginner with terrible lighting in your room (talking from experience, here), it’s pretty common to come out of your room, in better lighting, with too much foundation caked on, too much blush, etc.
This is why you should either do your makeup in more natural lighting or have more lighting in your room. Getting a mirror that lights up will definitely help you out in this regard. You can also try doing your makeup routine in more natural lighting so you can get a more accurate vision of what your makeup looks to other people.
This is a very, very crucial step. Not to apply makeup, but to get it off your beautiful face.
You’ve most likely heard about this step over, and over, and over again, but I’m going to say it to really get it in there. Do. NOT. Wear. Your. Makeup. To. Bed.
Ever.
There’s a pretty big possibility that many bad things will happen if you do end up wearing your makeup up to bed. According to an article by Byrdie.com, if you end up wearing your makeup to bed frequently, you’ll end up with acne flare-ups, dry skin, enflamed eyes and skin, and a host of other awful things. There’s also a possibility of infection around your eyes.
Of course, nothing may happen if you accidentally leave your makeup on one night. I don’t want to fear monger, here. But if you continually do so, then it’s a possibility that all those things may happen to your skin and your eyes.
If you want to start learning how to apply makeup, knowing what to do when applying that makeup is pretty essential. There’s definitely more tips that you should know about when applying makeup, so please do your own research if you want to learn more about it! Now go and look more stunning, you wonderful human being!
