To The Mother Who Thinks She Has Failed
The weight of the world falls on a mother’s shoulders and with that comes the feeling that she has failed us in some way. But, as we all know, that is rarely ever the case. So, I am going to write to you, Mom, for all the times you think you have failed as a mother.
When we take our frustrations out on her
It is at this point that she thinks she has failed. Even though we feel really bad when we fight with our moms, we simply can’t help it. She is the only person that will not only understand us, but with whom we feel the most comfortable with. In the process of getting out our stress, we tend to say things we don’t mean at all. So, mom, thank you for being there always and being so understanding.
When she has a lot on her plate
When you have to work late and you feel guilty, because you haven’t cooked or you haven’t talked to me all day, you might feel that you have failed me. Let me ensure you that you have not! I understand, as all children do, that the reason you are working apart from the fact that you like being independent, is that you want me to have everything. And I am not upset. I am proud and I admire you. I dream of becoming like you. As a student who is currently living alone, I completely understand how it feels to always trying to do everything perfectly. You cannot. Now, I know!
When she needs to talk it out
My beloved mother, when you think you have failed, I want you to talk to me as I talk to you when I am troubled. I don’t care if it is in the middle of a fight or if I am tired as hell. I want, no, I need you to feel free to be not-perfect with me. Because in the end, I feel great when I am not perfect with you. You are the only person in my life with whom I want to cry, swear and throw things at the wall with. Being a mess makes you perfect, being a failure is being human. You are my Wonderwoman and I love you most when you think you fail, because that’s what makes you real.
