10 Tips & Tricks to Playing Beer Pong Like a Boss

A classic drinking game that has transcended decades, beer pong is a pastime of all college students. It can range from a friendly competition between hall mates to a “Total Frat Move” worthy rivalry. Whether you’re a first time rookie or a beer pong connoisseur, here are 10 tips and tricks that will having you looking like a pro in no time!

1. First shot of the game: aim for the center

When you’re taking the first shot and no cups have been taken out yet, always aim for the center cup. In case you miss it, there’s still a good chance it could go in the other cups.

2. The wetter, the better

Before throwing, always wet the ball (with water). I don’t know if physics or chemistry can even explain it, but if the ball bounces on the edge of the cup while wet, it has a better chance of going in than if it were dry.

3. “Okay, ladies, now let’s get (the cups) in formation”

When the game starts getting heated and you usually have four or fewer cups, you can ask your opponents to rerack the cups in a certain formation or shape that makes it easier for you to throw in. Common reracks include: diamond (4), traffic light (3), triangle (3), and the “play” button (3).

4. Watch your elbows

It’s a basic rule, but a lot of people don’t follow it. All you have to do is make sure your elbow does not go past the back edge of the table. The last thing you want in the middle of a game is someone calling you out for looking foolish.

5. Celebrity shot

In a drought or feeling lucky? Have one of your friends on the sideline make an appearance and throw for you.

6. Kiss and Tell

Make sure to ask your opponents to make the cups “kiss” or touch. Don’t want them taking any shortcuts.

7. A Good Teammate

While this isn’t necessary, good team chemistry may be the key to winning in a close game.

8. Arc it

By throwing the ball in an arc, you have a bigger chance of making it in than a line-drive. Practice makes perfect.

You don’t have to throw from the same position every time. Mix it up and see how it turns out. You never know where your lucky shot is.
