7 Tips On How To Style The Perfect Fishtail Braid

Do you need a new hairdo for this summer, or do you just wanna perfect your braiding technique? The fishtail is my favorite braid to do, and that’s because it’s soo easy and there are soo many cute ways to style your hair with one, also when you take it out after a long day it leaves these cute beachy waves. Here are some tips on how to style the perfect fishtail braid.

1. Detangle your hair

This is the first step to getting the best fishtail braid. Without making this step your hair will get frizzy as you pull it apart to braid it, especially if you have thick curly hair like myself. Spray it through with some water or water and conditioner and use a wide tooth comb, or I recommend a Denman brush.

2. One or two braids

Now that’s you’ve detangled your hair decide whether you wanna wear one braid or two. Decide whether you want your braid on the side of your face to compliment it, or behind to show off your features.

3. Separate your hair evenly

I’m sure you don’t want you’re hair looking uneven. So split your hair down the middle to get it as even as possible, whether you’re going one of two braids. If it’s a side braid just bring all you’re hair to the side and split it evenly. you don’t want one part bigger then the other, it makes the fishtail braid not come out as nice.

4. Smaller the better

Now if you don’t fully know the process of making a fishtail braid I’ll give you a brief explanation. After your hair has been split evenly, take a small piece of hair from one side and pull it over to the other side, like your connecting a string. Then keep doing this one side after another. The smaller you make the pieces the pattern will be more distinct and the fishtail braid will come out nicer.

5. Get a brown or black elastic!

When getting to the end, the pattern will be difficult to end so just braid it down regularly with a three strand braid, and then tie it off with an elastic. It’s better if the elastic matches the color of your hair, mainly for the fact that you don’t’ want that bright color to take away from the pretty pattern of your braid.

6. Make it Voluminous!!!

Once you’ve tied off your fishtail braid, don’t keep it looking small, make it look voluminous. Start to pull apart the braid a bit not breaking the pattern, up and down in order to even out the volume, making your braid appear bigger, and hair appears thicker and voluminous.

7. Baby hairs…

This step is optional but I do as well mainly to compliment my face. Pull out your baby hairs, and allow them to fall down around your face. Take some gel if you want and brush them down, or even take it and if you have long baby hairs like mine, twirl them in your fingers and have them appear curly around your hair, it’s a super cute touch.

I hope you enjoyed all the tips. Let me know in the comments section below if any of these worked for you or if you have some tips of your own. Ps: When you take your hair out later that day, you’re gonna have some cute beachy waves, so consider wearing them throughout the day, and then rocking your waves at night, just spray them with some water after the braids are done.
